well motors going to the machine shop next week tot see what i'm going to do.
reason for it...water some how got into the motor from a broken knock sensor :bang:...so it all started with pulling the trans out for the new season. now this.
thinking about using stock crank with boost pistons and forged rods, head and main studs, and prob o-ring it too. or see if the shop can do 1/2 head suds?
second option send a lil more and get a 4.00 crank and get 383? no o-ring and just the regular studs.
It's an LS6 block, it should handle the same amount of power either size right?
so budget 383 or solid 347? up to 750rwhp :chug:

If there was no damage to the stock crank then i would use it. You will not break the gm crank at 750rwhp.

The stock crank is a very solid unit.

i know the stock is good for a lot of power, whats the advantages going with a 4.00 crank 50ft lbs over a 347ci..witch is a lot through the curve. no damage that i see still in the block...a lil surface rust on it.

either one really depends on your budget. last year I was at 676rwhp with my stock heads and forged 347 @13psi. Should put down some better numbers with my new heads cam and intake this year. and I can still spin my D1 faster
MikeP2002 has a 383 in his vette and made 770rwhp with his AFR heads and maxed out D1

I'd use the stock crank if your going boosted. Spend the extra money on your fuel system or heads. There are guys on here that i've talked to that have made upwards of 800+ rwhp using the stock long block, boosted and on race gas. I think they had a ZO6 cam and head studs though. HellbentS10 is one of them.

yeah i'll be on a budget..the machine shop shop just mentioned in to me and price it out as an option. i'll prob max out my T70 first and i could use the extra money for the fuel or heads.
those are good numbers was that through a 6spd.

if you went with a real good crank and had it edged and light weight then id say worth it. but if not. go with a solid 347

no need for that right now. i think i'll have him use the stock crank. the same guy build dereks motor in his conquest and that did over 600whp at 10lbs. unexpected project..im a roofer so anyone need work done so i can get my motor together haha

Both cars had M6 in them at the time they made those numbers. Well the Vett still is but I just installed a TH400 with my new heads cam and intake.
If you are gonna rebuild I would do stock crank, callies rods, Diamond -8.6 cc dished pistons and pick up a set of 243 heads. Will put you right around 9.9:1 compression some 93 octane a little Meth and she will run strong.

thats right i think i saw you post up your new set up..over 700 you made or hoping for.
thats what we're were going with diamond pistons..I'll being running the 317's i have on it now. so compression might be low, till i get some good heads and run higher boost..

Car isn't even running yet. I just put the motor in the car Tuesday night still lots of little things to finish up and waiting on my intake elbow to show up. Hoping to break 700 with the TH400.

dschmittie has seen my build.
347, Diamond -8.6cc pistons, K1 rods, Stock crank, 243 heads.
My compression is 10:1, running around 6# of boost. Don't have any #'s yet but hopefully with in the next couple of weeks here.

is that all your running for boost..the cam im using is close to your 228/232 592 lift maybe. i want 15+psi or what ever my set up and a 70mm will do. prob 9:5 or so.

oh nice..im hoping i an get my 4l60 to that much and 140 trap speed :chug: 3300-3400lb's you were close to 140 at 3700 with 650+hp right

Yes I went 137mph at about 3550lbs. Also C5Kid was running about 12 psi on his old motor and never changed blower pulleys and is now only making 6 psi. I have a next size pulley sitting for my new top end.
You will be near 8.9:1 with the 317 heads. I would seriosly look around for some 243 cheap and sell the 317s

yeh thats too low.well when i can afford it i'm getting a head with a thicker deck height AFR's I really dont want to do head gaskets with the turbo set up i have..

have the 317's done for it. cut em up, bump compression
jason02Z
03-25-2010, 12:35 PM
yeah i could do that too..dont want to waste money on heads im not keeping. if they hold up to 15-17psi with out lifting i'll do it for now.

to cut and go through them isnt to bad. my guy would clean and cut them and cc them for short coin

yea, I was making 11# of boost w/ this pulley and my old setup. Now it dropped down to 6# due to teh better flowing heads and cam.
I am debating on getting a smaller pulley and maxing out my P1 or just saving my money and upgrading to the D1.
