New from Ct, Downpayment on a 98 SS Camaro, $8,500- Good deal?
Hello from Ct, I just put a downpayment on a 98 red SS Camaro, it has t tops, cloth (willl install leather) auto trans and a 350 engine, car runs well, I want it for my house in Florida, but, want to install a stroker, trans that will hold up and rear end if needed. I currently own a 08 SRT8 300 w/426 Stroker, D1SC Pro Charger, 2 stage Nitrous, race trans , driveshaft, axle and lsd diff. I run high 10's on 8lbs boost, just getting used to launching. N20 isnt even tuned. As far as this Camaro, to get into the 11's, what size stroker , what trans etc. will be needed to have a reliable street car? and is $8,500.00 a decent price, car is in great shape, 70,000 miles. Just needs some go fast mods. Any help will be appreciated, I'm not sure what vendors to use to build me a engine? what tuner, trans builder etc? how about a little help!

8500 is ok not to high. To go 11's you need is cam, intake, headers and a tune. No need for stroker, just about the same price 408 is better then 383. Is 11's all you want?

11's will be great, it will be a grocery getter for my winter home, so, my wife will be driving it half the time, want to make it managable, nice, fast and a nice re done interior! Will a stck trans hold up to the cam and all that, and at 70k miles, will i need to have other work done to the engine? It seems to go pretty good, i drove a gt mustang, it was a dog! Thanks.

I wouldn't pay $8500 for a 98' z with 70k. If your willing to travel; You can find them for 7k with similar mileage, year, and condition. I bought my 01' for a little over $8500 with with way less miles and with all the bolt-ons.

Welcome to the boards! I'm a newbie here myself, but I too am from CT. I believe I was at Lebanon Valley when you had the 300 there last summer. That thing RIPS!!! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the time after your runs. Congrats on having a car that NOBODY would expect to do that.

As far as the camaro, the price seems fair to me, especially for a true SS. $8500 is nothing for an LS1 car. Back in 05 I paid $18k for my 2000 Firehawk with 40k miles. The LS1 engines LOVE heads and cam and I see no problem getting it into the 11's. You'll be surprised with how easy they are to dip lower than that too! Best of luck and I'm sure I'll see you around again...I'll be sure to come say hello!
