Default LT1 T56 Behind an LSx

I know the bell housings are different because of the differences with the slave cylinder and I know the bell housing bolt pattern is different but my main concern is if an LS1 clutch will work in there with the LT1 style clutch fork and in the input shaft will be properly inserted into the carnk.

I am asking because a coworker has a old street rod with a LT1 & T56 and he keeps asking me if I can throw a carbed LSx together for him, he's old school and really doesn't care if he's only got 5 out of 8 bell housing bolts in.

You have to change the front plate on the trans and the input shaft. It's usually cheaper and easier to just sell it and buy the correct one

He'll probably buy a Bell housing, mid plate & input shaft before he buys a new trans he built the car in the mid 90's and bought a brand new T56 from a local GM dealer. since then the car has about 15k Miles on it. the motor cam from a wrecked mid-90's F-body mileage unknown and was just cleaned up. it's looking like time for a rebuild so he's thinking LSx

I was just looking at D&D's website looks like a LSx bellhousing, mid plate & input shaft will be roughly $600-800 seems like that's less and a used LS1 T56 even on ebay

You are going to have to swap the Front Plate & Input Shaft to the LS Style. Then you are going to have to check your pre-load on both of them to make sure they are shimmed correctly. Most people forget that, and your T56 will self-destruct if that's not right.

I have an LT1 T56 & belllhousing with a push clutch (third gen / T5 app.) and 83-down F-body fork behind a SBC.

To answer your question, yes, it's theoretically do-able. Worthwhile depends on how it's done.
