Default LS1 in a 55 chevy truck; speedo ???

I will be using a LS1 automatic car in a 55 chevy truck with an old Camaro rear end too. I'm planning to use an aftermarket speedometer (Dolphin or auto meter) and I want to know if it should be machanical or electrical and from where I will take the reading for the speedo? Thanks.

Get an electric speedo........

It will use the wire from the PCM to the speedo signal input...

T,
Thanks man, any brand suggestion? I would like the old look with the new performance. The Dolphin speedo, they said that can be programmed to any combo of wheel and rear end ratios.

Look up JML55 on the boards. He used a dolphin set in his 55 5.3/4l60E combo. He may be able to provide you some insight.

Autometer makes some gauges called the Old Tyme series, I put them in my Nova, have an old school nostalgic look...check them out...mine is also spot on, against two other cars and my GPS....easy to set up and calibrate....

+1 for the Autometer electronic speedo's. Much better quality than the Dolphin gauges. I have installed both in customer cars, you get what you pay for.

First, thanks for your words. I read in the Classic trucks mag, that the Dolphin electric speedo is programmable for any wheel size and rear end ratios. Do the autometer one can be programmed too or how it work?

Default elertic speedo

I read somewhere........ that the new electric speedometer ( unfortionatly I don't recall the brand or model) only required you to drive a measured mile and rest it. then you are done. I wish I could of remember more of it though.
