Corvette Performance - C6-What's your opinion? It's the first I really liked from first...

I have owned many corvettes. Of all the corvettes, this is the VERY FIRST ONE (except the mid year, especially 62, 63 but I was only 7 and 8!!!) that I REALLY do like the very first time I saw it.

What is your opinion, please rate, I will try to keep a log. Add your comments, I would like to see real corvette owners detailed opinions:

10--I HAVE TO OWN ONE, very soon too, 9--Fantastic, but will wait for awhile for prices to soften 8--This is sharp and I will buy one some day maybe even next year or two...., 7--I like it, but it won't make me buy one, 6--It's alright, but not my favorite, 5--Nuetral, don't think I will buy one on looks alone 4--Looks will NOT make me buy this one, maybe performance will..., 3--I don't care for the looks and think they missed it, 2--This has got to be half vette (i.e. NO Creativity) and half VIPER (meaning they know they have been whipped..., 1 -- I DO NOT LIKE IT and will never own this model (tell me why...)

10! Great styling, more power and many upgrades over the C5 have me looking forward to this car. I've been waiting another convertible but I'm thinking about going with a coupe instead. I still have time to decide though.

C2 and C5 are the only ones I liked from the very first moment I saw them. The C6 is slowly growing on me.

I give it an 8.

It's between 10 & 9 for me , 10 I love the way it looks but 9 being I will not pay sticker or over sticker for it which alot of Dealers will want , Remember when the C5 came out in 97 and alot of Dealers where getting $ 5000.00 over Sticker ? :bs: I can only imagine when the ZO6 Version is out and Dealers are going to really take advantage of people who really want them , but to each his own .

pimp and a half, but i have to give it an 9, only because it's inaccessable to me.

the C5's should come down however :D and i'd love to get my hands on a 98 coupe.

I really Like it, so I'll give it a 9

I can't give it a 10, because there is no such car. The C-6 Vette has really caught my eye though, with its Coke bottle styling. I appreciate the pronounced wheel well openings with the bevelled edges. I believe the tapered rear canopy is in touch with the earlier Sting Rays. I think the exposed headlights look cool, and give the car a new look.

What's most exciting about the new Vette is the 400HP LS2 mill under the hood. The new issue of Motor Trend has a pretty good write up, although it won't be available for sale until April.

The only thing that Chevy missed was weight reduction. At 3,250 pounds the C-6 is still a tad heavy.

I'll give it an 8.75. Its growing on me more and more. Takes awhile to get used to the non-flip lights, but its all Corvette still so thats a plus. I wont be able to afford one for oh another 20 years lol, but they're growing on me.

I just like the fact Chevy didnt mutilate it like some of the other vehicles they have out now. They didnt do the retro shit, or the way too futuristic look.

Of all the corvettes, this is the VERY FIRST ONE that I REALLY do like the very first time I saw it.
It's funny you say that because I was thinking the exact same thing...I have been consciously alert (ie: a car nut old enough to notice ;)) through two other Corvette launches (C4 & C5) and while I did end up liking both of them (actually ended up owning an LT1 C4) I was not crazy about either one (especially the '84 C4) at their respective intros. I now love the C5s and when I saw the spy photos and test mules of this new car early on I was a little disappointed with what appeared to be coming.
Then I saw the 'red car on the trailer' pics :eek2: and immediately determined that this was the FIRST new Corvette that I basically loved from the 'get go'.
I'm in the '9' range I think.

I probably give it an "8." I really like the exposed headlights a lot. The front 3/4 view is absolutely killer. The main thing that gives me pause is the rear styling. Then again, that was the exact same thing I thought about the C5 when it first came out, and now I think it's one of the best features.

I like it! Give it a 8 for styling just because it's not that different from the C5 IMO. Still has a fat looking ass. The motor is the big kicker for me. 6.0 with 10.9:1 compression & 6500rpm rev limit, LQ4 heads (same as LS6 porting), bigger cam (hoping it's a LS6 cam), and better breathing in and out. 400 hp? Give me a break! It's at LEAST as powerful as the LS6. I'm guessing 20 more ponies (conservatively) over the LS6. I guess the General could not dethrone the Z06 just yet while there are so many left on the lots. Makes sense.

A 2, looks like a c5 and a viper made a ugly little offspring.

i fell in love with the 68 vette as soon as i layed eyes on it...........oh the good ol' days

The one complaint i have is the rear. Has that 84-90 "fishtail" look to it. But, i guess they wanted something different than the C5s round back. I think something like what the Tiger Shark and White Shark had would've been sweet, but oh well...

I would give it about an eight. If the Z06 is placed in the 2005, what is the horsepower going to be? I know the standard motor will be 400 HP per GM article. Cheers

I give it a 4 as to me it looks like a C5 with a body kit (which i would never buy) and with the front end of a 2003 viper thrown on and i don't like the bug headlights either. However, i am sure its going to be a great piece of machinery performance, handling and electronically speaking, and if the 06 Z06 comes out with 500 factory crank horsepower as rumored it will be TUFF for me to pass up on that type of factory guaranteed performance with a warranty. Also, will be interesting to see how the vert and z06 turn out looks wise and that has not been shown yet!! :drive:

Well, the feedback is about what I expected. I agree with many of the comments, especially "it's half Viper and half C5..."! I thought so too, or at least that was my first impression, like the first 1/2 second. But this thing grows on you!!!

I have PICs as screen savers and it was the first time anyone in my home has complained when I took OFF a pic of the new C6 and put a 56 Chevy BelAir on instead! I think I will do a few tests on colors now.

I wish it had Viper power under that Viper looking front end. But, wait, I know that performance will be easy to get out of the 6.0L LS2 V8. Has anyone seen any real comparison on air intake options? Like comparing twin cones versus larger singe cones (K&N, or what ever) or even a larger area C4 style flat filter(like Stealth Tech did for my 2002 Firehawk)? I sure would like to have one of K&N flow machines AND a wind tunnel to do some real testing on my Firehawk. I have a feeling the best place is using a cowl style intake that grabs air in front of the windshield, but have no data to back up my thoughts. That is where NASCAR does it so it has to be real. Of course, 180 to 200 mph probably equals 4, 5 or more atmospheres! I wonder what the numbers are for 30, 40, 50, 60....and so on to 120mph for an F-body and the C5 vette. If anyone knows of a study, direct me that way, please.

I give it a 9. the trailer pics really caught my eye also. I'll probably like it more when I see it in person and wind up buying one at that time, just like I did with my 99 C5. once you sit in one of these cars and drive it, you're hooked.

I would give it 8 out of 10 but I think it would be 10/10 as soon as it get in roads ... have anybody seen it in LA Car show .. for all that options it has I don't think they would sell it for $42,000 it worth more than $55,000 .. if they start selling it with less then that it would be cheap i think .... it has the mercedes options and technology .. i don't know how much would my Z06 worth when they get the C6 out!!!

I would give it a 9. It is a very good looking car, but I would have liked the flip up headlights to continue. It is growing on me however. I remember the new WS6 hood for 1998 and had to look at it for awhile before I really started liking it. Now I would not want anything else. Oh yeah, no one wants to pay 5K over sticker for any "new" model car. How about this, do a search on Z06's on Ebay and see how some dealers are selling 2003 Z06's with less than 10K on the clock for 38K buy it now. I've seen 3 this week. Sounds like it beginning to be a great time to buy an 02 or 03 on the FAIRLY cheap. Maybe if I wait awhile, I can pick up an 03 for less than my WS6 cost!

9.5 here. I think it is pretty damn badass. I also think whoever said up top that it may be underrated. With all of the improvements, it wouold seem to get more than 400hp. And the explanation is a good one in that they still have ZO6s to sell. I probably won't be able to afford one brand new but we will see.

Quick Question : any word on the "official" 1/4 mile time?

Fulton 1
01-14-2004, 12:30 PM
I love it myself, but will hold out for a ZO6 if I can afford one.

Interesting thing about this poll is that its a love/hate kind of a response (i.e. 2-4 or 8-10 ratings, not much in the middle). Mr. Lutz has said that this exact polarizing reaction to a new design is what he wants because those who love it will have to buy one. So, by that standard (at least in this small survey) it appears he's achieved his initial goal.

Well I own two Corvettes at the moment, and I always though that the ultimate car would be the 69 body on a C5 chassis and drivetrain. But now, I have to see the C6 in person to be absolutely sure, I think it is the C6. So I give it a 10.
In fact I may be willing to sell both my cars to make sure that a new Black C6 coupe with chrome rims and the Z51 sport suspension ends up in my garage. Besides I'm sure it is the kind of women who wouldn't share her bedroom, she'll want all of the attention...LOL!

I'm mainly a truck guy, but after reading all the info on the c6, I'm going to give it a 8 - I can't wait to see what they put out for the zo6. I like the new size, shape, headlights, ls2, interior etc etc etc. Only thing that will probably suck about this car is the insurance.

that might be true for a daily driver policy. I keep my rates under a grand a year by insuring it as a pleasure only driven car. mom's got a puddle jumper for groceries and I have a company vehicle which helps a bunch. so if you have another vehicle available to drive everyday, you would be eligeble for lower rates in addition to the multi-car discount.
by the way, vettes are cheaper to insure than f-bodys or mustangs, (at least the cobra)

I give it a 5... I have the image that a sports car should have hide-away lights. The rear fascia is too busy. The dash is missing the horizontal grab bar on the pass. side. Only positive is the LS2... Just my 2 cents, and I would not trade my FRC for one either. Maybe time will change my opinion. But hey its a free country and to each thier own.

I'm sitting at a solid 7 right now. I LOVE the styling of the C5, partly because it is instantly identifiable as a Corvette, and partly because it shows great innovation and styling evolution when compared to the generations that preceeded it.

I cannot say that for the C6 at this time, though. Maybe, over time, I will think more of the styling. Yes it is clean. Yes it is 'Corvette'. Yes it is one bad-ass looking car. Yes it will definitely be desirable by all who see it. No, it is not innovative styling-wise when you compare it to the C5, IMHO. Look at the differences between the C4 and the C5, and then look at the differences between the C5 and the C6...see what I mean? You see a 'fresher' rendition of the C5, and that's about it....not a new style 'Corvette'.

However, don't take it that I don't like it, because I do... I'm a Corvette fanatic through and through, and will have posters and pictures, etc. I just don't have the same instantaneous 'fondness' for it that I had for the C5...

JBsZ06
01-27-2004, 12:51 PM
I like the new C6...I like the fact its evolutionary in nature as it doesn't quite date my C5 Z06.

Its just a more refined version of it..

01-27-2004, 12:56 PM
I have to admit, that the more I look at it, the more I'm not sure I agree with my first response. First, I am fond of hide away lights because the front end looks cleaner. Second, I like the smooth lines of the C5 vs the sharp fender edges and lines of the C6. I do like the new interior better though, and the rear will have to be seen in person to make a true judgement on it. In conclusion, I change my vote to a 7, based on the fact that I very much like my 2003 and the payments on it...LOL! Also, I can get more than 400 hp without having to buy a new car. In fact, I could customize the interior, get drilled rotors and up my horsepower to 500 and still spend less! So I am going to keep what I have for now.

I am not impressed with the looks as it looks like a C5 with a body kit (which i would never have bought for my C5s) and GM totally copies the front end of a VIPER as well as the side body lines of the C6. I am glad i am not to thrilled with it as i have way too much $ invested in my two C5s to be wanting to trade up, but honestly, aside from the important fact of my C5 investment really am not impressed with the looks but like the standard 400HP performanc eupgrade and figure the 06 Z06 may get me a bit more excited if it carries the 500HP its rumored to run!:D

Just wasn't for me. C3 and C5 have it, C6 seems to be......kinda riced. Nice car, but I can't deal with the headlamps. I really like the sleek look of the flip-ups.
Saw it close-up at the LA car show- the crowd seemed pretty evenly divided between love and hate. Very few in-betweens.

I'll stick with the C5 'vert, thanks. :)

I give it a 7 its an improvement over the C-5 but it still looks like it was designed by a commitee. No car has ever had the styling impact on me that the 68 had when it first came out. And I have owned my share of them .The only thing that came close was the 82 Camaro and I bought a new one in 84 & 86 . At least Chevy is improving the looks of the C-6 over the C-5 unlike that styling abortion they pulled on the Camaro in 93. But hay what do I know I'm hacking up my perfect, original, numbers matching 70 Corvette LT-1 convertable to install a 6.0 LQ4
