Default Cruise Control

I was driving a month or so ago and had the the cruise control on at 55 went to stop and it would not stop so put the car in neutral turned it off turned it back on the rpms were back to normal unhooked the cable from the tb and I havent had a problem yet i would just like to fix it. Any idea on where to start looking for the problem? Car is an automatic 98 t/a.
