Default Blue Tinted Mirrors

Okay so I did some searching on the forums and found they come stock on the 98 trans am... Now it must be true as my friend has a 98 and it is in fact on it, but i also see them alot on 96-97 formulas/trans ams...

My question is if these were good for anti glare, bright lights being shined in at ya which we all know is terrible why the hell did they get rid of it? was there a problem with them? do they scratch or break? was it a option on the car???

I am just curious and was thinking of doing it to my 00 ws6.

Also were do i buy them, dealer prolly wont stock this item anymore.

Thanks!

IIRC it is not a film, it is blue tinted. I don't know how but it is not something you can take off.

He's not talking about the windows. The side rear view mirrors had a blue tint to them.

I know, all 98 models had it and I believe 97 models. There is a few threads floating around about it somewhere.

You can order the glass on ebay, or just search around at your local junk yards if you want them. I dont know why GM discontinued them. I want them for my car...

thats what happens when you dont read carefully

like the OP, i'm curious if there was any benefits/negatives of the blue mirrors. i've never noticed any real differences between the 2 as far as better or worst. the color seems to be the only difference

I has a 98 with the blue mirrors and my 00 without. I like the blue tint to them. ESPECIALLY if you don't have 5% tint. If you have 5% it doesn't really matter.

i went to the dealer and asked about them, and they dont carry them anymore, but gave me the name of the place that bought them all from GM. I dont remember the name right now though, I will have to try and find it though since i thought it would look good paired with NBM

E-bay for sure. I think like $35 each or here. They are not blue like the picture shows, just a hint of blue in the glass.

Okay so i work for a parts dealer and just got off the phone with burco, I can get well there will be a markup for me to sell to public but its 100% the blue which i just ordered for mine, the cost for my company is drivers side $24.00 passenger $34.00 and takes roughly a week for me to get them as mine wont be here till the 16th...

But he mentioned something that might be worth while for others and i might just do it. The blue mirriors i can also get heated, i dont know what would be envolved in making them work but they are obtainable, keep in mind these are for the trans am 93-02. I know its kinda pointless but some might like the idea if your like me and like to toy around and add options.

Burco part # for blue
6110 Driver
7110 Pass Convex

Blue Heated PART #
6110H

I will be the first to say the blue doesn't cut glare at all. In fact it makes everyone behind you look like they have Silverstars or HID's. I love my mirrors and would take them in a heartbeat over the plain untinted. If anything it helps you pick up any lights behind you at night a little easier before changing lanes and such. Plus they look sexy on a white car.

This. Don't bother getting them. I have them on my car and i HATE them. Driving at night is a bitch. I have to aim the mirrors away from my view so i can no longer see behind me because the glare is terrible. The blue tint seems to reflect more light than a regular mirror for some reason

There asking alot. At cost for me is 60.00 for drivers 94.00 for passenger. And also when sold with markup it would be around 75-80 for driver 115-125 for passenger. Sucks that everyone has to mark up everything.

You can get these in a few months still? Can you find out about the install?

I can probably still obtain them yes. As for the install.. only way i could help on an install would be for me to buy them and install them and figure out if i want them ran on a simple switch or have them run off a temperature switch so when its dewy or cold they turn on automatically. I don't really think its worth the time as its a sports car and most don't ever take there's out in the cold or winter months but it would be a cool feature so when those blue tinted mirrors come in im going to install them and see if i like them because lucky for me i get to try before i buy lol. i should just of ordered the heated ones to look at and see what would be involved but if i decide to buy that's alot of money for something i truly don't need.

I also am installing a rear view mirror that has the compass and temperature so i could feed off of those for it to work automatically.
