Default Passenger T-top flew off last week. Read on.

Like what the subject says, I was on the freeway the other day and I forgot to lock the t-tops and suddenly I heard a lot of wind sound so I looked up and my passenger side t-top flew up up and away!

Now Im shopping for a 2000-2002 passenger T-top for my car. Anyone have one for sale?

For those of you who have t-tops make sure you have em locked before you get a sucka$$ story on ls1tech like me.

Oh yeah one more thing.. I looked around to find where it flew off to and 5 minutes later I see an ambulance coming because of 2 car wrecks. I dont honeslty know if it was my entire fault. But I never found the t-top.

Someone help please.

been there done that...my 83' Camaro had t-tops and I did the same thing years ago. heard wind noise looked up and....SEE YA! Went into a couple thousand pieces. Found one at the junk yard for $150.

You can find our cars wrecked in almost any junk yard so finding one shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!

I DID THE SAME 2 MONTHS AGO. MINE WAS THE DRIVERS SIDE THOUGH. THE SUN SHADE JUST ABOUT KILLED ME AS IT CAME DOWN THEN OUT THE WINDOW (I WAS DOING 85-90 MPH). IF YOU BUY A NEW ONE FROM GM YOU'LL NEED YOUR HANDLE, LOCK AND PLASTIC COVER + ABOUT $370

Don't feel bad.. Same thing happened to me about the first 2 weeks I had the car. Hit a 2 lane Highway and just like you described.. One brief sound of Wind and FWOOP!!! GONE!. I looked up into the rear view and side mirror and saw it shatter into a billion pieces on the road behind me.

I went to every Salvage yard in town and got one for about $200.00 DOn't worry though.. After you run all over town for one you'll see ad's pop up all over the classifieds of people selling the one you need for $50 bucks. (Never fails)

BTW, There are 2 different T-TOps just so you know.. 93-95 had the painted little Matrix Dots to block out the sun. 96 and up went to a very Dark Privacy Tint. (What you most likely have now).. That's about the only hassle you'll have to put up with unless you specifically tell the salvage yard you want a 96 up Fbody T-Top..

I have read many posts about this happening and I have personally heard about a few cars that have had this occur. I have had f-bodies for the past 10 years. I'm 25(26 on 10-28-02)and my first car was a 1984 Camaro with no t-tops, but I had them installed! I have had my LT1s and LS1s all up to and over 150mph without the t-tops locked. Never did I have one come off. Are you guys making sure the bars are latched properly?

On top of that if you are going 80+ mph and have one or both windows open, the increased air pressure might cause the tops to bow enough to pop out of their latches.

The latches ARE adjustable. You remove the one or two screws on the car trim where the ttop rods go in to the holes. There is a metal adjustable sliding bracket behind the trim. I think it's just one bolt that tightens it down.

I haven't tried but you can probably take the trim piece off and put your ttop back in to see how much of the rod it's actually holding on to.

well I drove over 3 times without latching the t-tops correctly and nothing happened.

Unfortunately the 4th time I did so I was accelerating quick (doing about 75-85mph) on the freeway and it was kind of bumpy so the t-top could of easily bounced and flew off because of the air. And BTW my passenger window was down as well.

Yeah I wasnt smart at all this time.
