Default 454 LS2 engine is in the car and fired up.. video

Well, we fought the good fight but I'm dead tired from working all day and then till 10pm every night (then an hour drive home), but at least the engine is in and running.

Was going well, but we ran into a couple of small items. Namely the sensor bungs we put in the radiator sides were in exactly the wrong place and need to be rotated to the other side.

The biggest problem is a substancial oil leak from the main cover. I don't know if the gasket was FUBAR'd or I screwed up torqing it down.. but it leaks and that means the trans has to drop. I'm pretty sure that with the trans/clutch/bell out of the way I can remove the rear cover and replace it.

Not a HUGE undertaking but with 36 hours until the show I just don't feel like killing myself and the friends that work with me to make some arbitrary date. This way I won't have to rush it together and then have to go back and "fix it" after Del Mar.. Instead we are going to have it right the first time.

But, as a consolation prize here's how Penny's new LS454 sounds though the exhaust system. We all agreed that it's much more pissed off sounding.

Tomorrow we mod the radiator and then next week we drop the trans and fix the leak.. I hate leaks!

Built the engine over at Turn Key Engine Supply..

Darton MID sleeved LS2 block done by Steve over at Race Engine Develpment in Oceanside.

K1 crank (4.125 stroke)
K1 rods
11.3:1 compression
Cometic gaskets
Darton sleeved LS2 block
ARP studs, mains dowel pinned
Trick Flow 235 heads
Comp 243/259 .624 114 LSA cam
Comp Ultra Gold 1.72 rockers
FAST 102mm intake
Comp magnum lifters
Comp push rods (7.450)
FAST injectors and fuel logs
Moroso oil pump
yada yada

4.185 bores using Darton's MID sleeves. Wiseco pistons.

Here's an engine dyno video:

While the cam we're running is large compared to other LS cams it's not that big considering the displacement of the engine. COMP said I could pick up a bunch of tq/hp by moving to a more aggressive 112 LSA, but drivability and idle would suffer.

Since I don't want too much power and I want to keep my street friendly drivability we settled on a 114 LSA.

Best pull was 650 hp and 613 tq.. but the best part is that even down at 3500 rpm it's already making 550 lb/ft. The torque peeks at around 4600 and is still well over 500 up at 6500. That's the kind of torque curve I was looking for - flat and a bit weighted to the bottom/midrange area.

Corrected graph: (correction factor was 1.042ish)

Default BBC torque

Thats the flattest torgue curve I've ever seen on a LSx. Looks like a 496. What do you thing is the reason?(besides 4.125) the small 235cc ports?
