Default 01 6.0 and ls2 flywheel starting problem

I just stuck a 6.0 in my car as a temporary setup and had a ls2 clutch so I put that in. I am having issues starting it. First starter I tried tested good. Didn't work in the car. Second starter worked in the car for a little bit. It would wind out sometimes but still start it. It just quit on me. I pulled it apart and the internal gears are shot. Today I said screw it and bought a new one at autozone and it is just whining too. The ls2 flywheel looks like it is spaced out more than the ls1 style. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. I'm going to pull the trans tomorrow and put a different clutch but I just wanted to check first.

I think some 6.0's have a spacer on the back of the crank, that you need to remove when putting them into an Fbody. I'm not really sure what it looks like or anything, because mine was already setup for an Fbody when I bought it.

99 and 00 truck 6.0s had a longer crank that was designed to work with a 4L80 trans. Later years used a spacer. If you have an iron block, good chance you have an early one or you left the spacer in.

its a 01 and I'm 99% sure there want a spacer on it. I'm going to feel like a idiot if I find one on ther later. The strange thing is is that I did have it starting for a little while. It was winding out some but I could still get it started. Thanks for the pointers so far guys.
