Gear question
Ive got a 99 ss with only a slp lid and Professional products hurricane
85m intake and 85m throttle body for motor mods. The vacuum pump
and piping and egr has been removed. Everything else is stock.
The drivetrain has a th350 trans with a 4200 ati converter. The
gears are 4.56. It has ran a best of 7.80 at 85mph on motor and
a 7.30 at 95 on a 100 dry shot. 1.56 60ft on spray and 1.67 on
motor. On spray it is crossing the 1/8 mile traps at 6000 rpms's.
My question is I am thinking I might need a little higher gear to
perform better or what has been some of your experiences with
gear selection. I dont want to hurt the peformance changeing the
gears but I would change them if it would help the performace.
Any input. Thanks

While gears are cheaper than a bigger intake or headers, you already have pretty tall gears...so I'd do a little more to the engine before getting different gears.

getting lower gears I was maybe thinking a 4.10 or 3.73 would be better
and I plan on doing more mods. I got some long tubes ready to install.
