Subject: RE: OBD2 Tuner development

Hi Randy,

Thank you for your e-mail. We are making good progress on the OBDII Tuner
program and now expect to release it sometime in January.

Although things aren't completely finalized, we are currently planning to
sell the OBDII Tuner package for $379.95. This package will include the
following:

OBDII Tuner Program on CD
OBDII/RS232 Interface
OBDII Cable
RS232 Cable
Your choice of one Vehicle Definition File

Additional Vehicle Definition Files can be purchased for $79.95 each.

The following Vehicle Definition Files are currently planned:

1996/97 LT1's
1996/97 Vortec Trucks
1997/98 LS1 Camaro/Corvette
1998 - 2000 Vortec Trucks
1999 - 2003 LS1 Cars
1999 - 2002 LS1 Trucks
2003 - 2004 LS1 Trucks

Best regards,

TC

PRO-M is also coming out with a tuner for our cars soon...Our shop has 1 of there first Mustang chip burners and we'll be getting the setup's to do LT1/LS1 soon as they are done....
I would like to see the Tuner Cat.It sounds like a Predator setup used on a laptop to me.

I disagree with that because it's a true tuner like ls1edit, their past software for obd1 has all aspects of the pcm unlocked... you can tune any thing freely

Vs. Predator gives you limited basic settings that can be changed "This is more like Hypertech…" If you wanted to do a cam and LT install and remove the AIR and EGR you would have to send your pcm bin to them and they change it for you. Almost no control over the way the settings are changed.

I also think the Predator is a great unit, it’s very easy to use and is much better then the HPP3. Tunercat and Predator are nothing alike…

The "definition file" is not like a Predator tune file,
it is more like the map of what goes where, for the
different PCMs. They have a standard programming
shell software that is matched to a specific PCM
model by this definition file.

At least, this is how I make it out from reading their
web stuff.

Which has roughly zip about LS-1s or other OBD-II
cars - which says either they're so far from done they
haven't even thought about hyping the vaporware
yet, or they have no idea how most people run
an automotive aftermarket business

when i had my LT1, the tunercat software was FAR superior to anything carputing ever came out with. im a my whits end with the carputing junk, and they're customer service as well. just the thought of tunercat coming out for the LS1, is music to my ears. i'll purchase one as soon as it's released. good to hear this.

can't wait for more competition, means lower prices. Maybe tunercat won't be pcm locked, ouch that would hurt. but he'd sell a whole lot of em

Off the subject a bit but think about this.

Carputing....$550 a copy.

Sell 2000 copies.....that's over a million dollars. Sell 4000 copies....2 million.

Nice little business going huh? This is why Bill is a billionaire.

Hi Randy,

The OBDII Tuner program will function much like the current Tuner program
and will give you access to a full range of calibration parameters. Sorry we
don't have any screen shots yet and we're not taking pre-orders.

Like all our products, the OBDII Tuner program will not be VIN locked and
updates to the program and Definition Files will be free to registered
users.

Best regards,

TC

i think is what most people want to hear "OBDII Tuner program will not be VIN locked" music to my ears also Vent! Sorry to say Vent i will be 1st inline for this software release.

they have no obd2 software info on the web site right now, everything is obd1 or older

this software is being build from the ground up and has been delayed but once released should lower prices a little.

From all this good info, I think I will hold off on the LS1edit and wait till tunercat comes out with their LS1 application.

yup gonna be a fire sale on unlimited ls1 edit's in some months. $10K? d0h!!!
lol

with time comes competition, its inevitable, carputing has to one up the competiton with someone much more badass or less price.

WHAT I WANT: DATALOGGING AND PROGRAMMING IN ONE, NON VIN LOCKED.

That would get my money even if it was $750. cause then i wouldn't need autotap nor ls1edit.

I agree there should be some kinda dual software/hardware but the problem with that is no one wants to let out there secrets so another company can add logging or editing... The Predator has done this but only has basic logging and basic tuning.

I know EFIlive "star performance" has tried to work with "carputing" but they just will not do it.

As GM increases the complexity of the PCM it will take more time and more money to crack the enter workings of these computers. So the end user will have a higher price and a longer wait.

as long as there is demand $$ there is gonna be someone to do it. Think about it. $50 in parts (Cable) and software? Thats a helluva lot of profit margin per unit..

if someone came out with tuning/logging in one, they could easily retire lol..

Very true i have tons of emails to prove it... but i'm holding out for tunercat. maybe it's lost cause and they will never come out with a useable version.

this summer, this fall, this winter, this spring... i'm not clear why that have gave so many false dates but these two last e-mails i got a price and more details on the software then i ever have.

That's like saying the Windows XP CD's are only $1 in parts, it's the engineering resources that costs money, not the 'parts'.
