The dealer has had my car 5 days to solve high oil temp warning I am getting from dash digital gauge. 300 degree+, cools to 280, climbs to 300 etc. They did not even know the car was equipped with an oil temp sensor and argued with me when I told them it MUST have one for the instrument to work! They are replacing the level/temp sensor on the side of the pan. Anyone experience this?

They have never checked to see if the oil was ACTUALLY hot so I guess I am going to find a new dealer.

I did. The oil temp/pressure sensor was bad. I can give you more details later but the problem is noted in the service bulletins for the 04-05 CTS-V. My problem was with the oil pressure not the temp.

I have had the same problem. Dealer had it for a week and replaced the temp sensor....problem is still there.

I had the same thing. I think I titled the thread "oil temps 290+". I only had the problems on hot days in traffic. Verdict I beleive was a ground resistance difference at the display. I even think someone had the problem at the track and carried an IR gun and found temps to actually he around 220 rather than 300+

Ya, I don't think the temp is actually over 300, I think the display is incorrect. My water temp runs normal, so it's hard to believe oil temp would be off the charts.

i read somewhere that is was a grounding issue. get a volt meter and see which wire is the - negative and ground it and see what happens. i'd try a jumper wire first before i cut/splice the wire.

Looks like a new sensor did the trick. I sat in traffic today and it stayed in the same range as coolant like it has been for years. 200-210
