Default How to race an A4 w/ 3600 stall form a roll?

Whats the best way to race an A4 w/ Vig 3600 from a roll. Manually shift or let the car do it? There are a lot of fast A4s on the street just wondered. I have a TNT kit but its not installed yet.

i always endorse letting the 4L60E shift on its own without user interaction...its an electronic transmission and will probably do a better job than you would shifting...I usually put it in D before a run though. And make sure your rolling from at least 20mph or you could run into traction problems very easily.

stab and steer. as long as your shift points are right in the pcm, you cant shift as fast as the computer and not near as accurate. only old school guys like to slow themselves down manually shifting an automatic.

just stab and go.... if you are cruising say under 40ish I like having mine in 3rd(outta OD) just to get the rpms up a tad quicker

but nothings gonna make a big difference from a roll in a A4.. i dont like my vig3600 from rolls untill I got the heads to match my cam

i never had good luck with N20 and my vig3600 either.. Needless to say I sold my kit asap and went with a cam, then heads later on... never been happier either

good luck, and remember your car's gonna to best racing where racing should be done!!! DEAD STOP!!!!

I shift my car manually most of the time. It HAS shown an approvement at the track b/c I do have my shiftpoints raised but it still shifts around 5800. My car doesn't downshift well either.

I have had good results with my vig and nitrous. and so did the guy before me (black sunshine 02SS -- or maybe its just SS). He went 11.6's or might have been 11.4's with bolt ons and then sprayed his way to a 10.60 with the same converter that I am currently running.

On the other hand the VIG IS NOT the ideal converter anyway.

I would not manually shift the car but there are occasions where it makes sense to leave the car in third.

firm the tuning with any turner, perferrably LS1 Edit as if you continue modding that'll come in handy, and just put it in D and allow the car to shift on it's on.

I tried however at times, eventhough I shifted it manually, it still would hit the rev limiter. I've left it in 3rd and it still would hit the rev limiter (set at 6500rpms, shift point at 6200) however if I leave it in D it never bounces and runs like a charm.

I've done several rolls and it's worked really good so far. I just have to watch it from a 20 to 25 roll as it would downshift into 1st and break loose hehe.

umm.. I'd tap the brake right before the race to unlock the converter and give it all she's got.. That's how I raced once against my m6 friend and he couldnt pull me.. then he shifted and then he dropped back a few feet.. and i held that like 3 feet lead haha..

Downshift the car manually to the right gear. And once you stomp the gas then shift it back into drive and let the car shift automaticly. So manually downshift to get in the right gear.

say buh bye to tranny real quick if you keep doing that.

get an ls1edit tune for your shift points, get a transgo shift kit, put it in D and let the car shift itself. With the 3600 that thing should flash up to 4 grand at least and away you go.

I have LS1edit but I'm working with a friend of mine to tune the car for my shift points but I guess we just haven't figued it out yet. I'm new to the LS1edit scene so any helpful hints would be apreciated.

I have a Vig3600 and am not too impressed with nitrous times and the mph at the track. I would recommend staying at or under the 100 shot(RWHP). I ran 11.6@115 with the 100 shot and 11.4@118 with the 150(RWHP) jets-both runs with E/T streets and a 60 ft in the 1.5 range.

Point is, that this is not a real steller Nitrous convertor, but to answer your direct question about running from a roll. I leave it in OD and let the PCM do all the work.

Good luck,Dave.
