Street Racing & Kill Stories - C5 Vette vs 02 Camaro SS

I was on my lunch break today and was heading home to grab something to eat. I see a silver C5 vette 2 cars in front of me. I didnt think much of it since most vette owners I've seen are older and just cruise around in them. NOT ALL (I know pleanty of locals that drive their vettes to their limits..), but I didnt think anything of it. I went to speed up to look at it and give the owner a thumbs up for having a nice car. A light was coming up, and the vette driver looks over and gives a thumbs up back and looks up at the light.

My adrenalin is pumping. FINALLY! My opportunity to race the almighty corvette. I open the cutout and seconds later the light turns green... We both ease into it... And he punches it when we were at about 20mph. I followed, and started a half car back. By 70 I had a car on him.

I let off and so did he. We both roll up to the next intersection and we both exchanged thumbs ups again.

Not the best race since it was only for about a 50mph span, but I was pulling on him and it wasnt the best place to be racing either.70mph was fast enough for the area. We werent on a highway.

Cool vette owner. He was bone stock and had a M6.

My SS has basic boltons. Pasesetter LT's, magnaflow exhaust, ORY, cutout, lid, some suspension stuff.

It made my day.

good kill. you Fbody's must not weigh that much more than vettes for you to pull with your mods. I thought a bolt on fbody would be about even with a C5.

A C5 stock for stock is only 250 pounds lighter...but the Fbody dynos 10 rwhp higher on average despite haveing the same engine the fbody has less drive train loss than the c5 with it's IRS..

So your talking about a 1.5 mph advantage in the 1/4 mile stock for stock...

C5 will run a 13.35 at 107.0.........Fbody will a 13.50 at 105.5

Nice kill dude. Of all of the cars I have ran I have never raced a vette. I take that back, I raced one back when I was bolt ons... the vette was built and procharged. I don't count that one, lol.

I'd expect that if the race continued...you'd slowly begin to see the taillights of the C5...especially at speeds 120+

Who told you F-bodies average 10rwhp more than C5's? Cause that's B.S. I've seen countless stock C5 & F-body pulls in my 10 years at FFP. They put down pretty much the same, about 295-310 for M6 cars. And 250lbs can easily account for +/- 2.5 tenths by the end of the quarter-mile depending, last time I checked that's a pretty decent advantage.

Realistically M6 C5's run closer to 13.00 in the 1/4 at traps closer to 110. Many guys have trapped in the 109 range, that's nothing uncommon for a C5.

went to the track last fri and my buddy with the C5 went too well he didnt make it past 9.2's at all and my Z28 went 9.0's runnin at 210degrees spinning?

Don't put so much into "theory" you know! Theoretically yes a stock LS1 F-body should, but in all my years of being an LS1 enthusiast i've simply never seen the proof. My old '01 C5 put down 303whp stock down to the filter. I bought that car in 2002 with 6k miles on it. A buddy of mine ("Demon 383" on here) had a stock '02 at the time that made a tad over 300whp. Both of our cars were dyno'd at Force Fed Performance in Sacramento on the same dyno, along with several other stock LS1 F-bodies on that same FFP Dyno Day. Both C5's & F-bodies were putting down basically the same hp/tq numbers. If there is a difference it is VERY minimal.

As for the vette pulling on me up top... I guess we'll never know since we didnt get that far. I definately wasnt going to be going 120+ on the road I was on.

Youtube... :lol: Without being a complete idiot and not caring for anyone elses safety on the streets, why would you go 120+mph? There is no point, that is pure stupidity.
These aren't cars that hit 120mph in a blink of an eye, they are stockish cars. No reason to go that fast.
The winner was VERY clear and he would have kept that.

They are both pretty much stock cars.. C5 with a catback CAI.. Camaro with ported TB/lid.

As far as dynos.. It all comes down to the dyno and the cars.

Not a clue, either way I'm sure they used the same trans in both cars. I think that is about on par myself.

i've done 166 on gps with minor bolt ons. could have hit 170 if i had more road.

A better question would be what's the fastest an LS1 F-body has ever been officially clocked/tested at. Several mags have tested top speed in our cars and it was usually in the mid 160's. I've heard of 170 but never actually seen that documented. C5's have however been documented at speeds close to 175. How hard is it for some people to believe that a Corvette is better aerodynamically? They've always ran higher top speeds with the same powerplant. What's so rocket science about that :confused:

Nothing is hard to understand about that. What we are saying is that it isn't enough difference to give a win to a corvette SOLELY based on aerodynamics.

The vette is more aerodynamic, however, I'm not going to be doing 160+mph when a car is next to me.. Hell... I wouldnt go that fast in my SS even IF there wasnt anyone close to me.

i agree with u....we just wantin to know y he thinks the vette will win just cause it has a higher speed....if u can get to a higher speed first your gonna win pretty much
