I am debating on what motor to throw in my new build. I am thinking of this set up. Thoughts?

$9500 that looks like a dam good price to me just put a bigger cam in there and it should be one nice street motor. Man i think i may save for that!

i would do a hke 408 with tfs 235-245's my self but if you want the ls7 heads i understand, you could use a 4" crank on that and it would be a 443 i think a guy somewhat local to be had a 454 and turned it into a 443 im not sure exactly why maybe something about it burning less oil, his name is 03supercobra if you want to pm him and ask a few questions, goodluck with finding a new motor

decent/good price if it was me would do a custom build from one of the sponsors.HKE comes to mind.

That's a nice motor all-right with a nice price.

Do you guys know what size injectors come with this set up? I am assuming 47#?

I THOUGHT the LS7 had the same injectors as the LS3

Hopefully someone will give me some insight on what size injectors they are. After looking around Jegs sells the same motor for $9299.99

Thats my understanding, 40lb IIRC.

So not enough injector for that motor lol

I just bought this motor along with the carb style intake + added an Elbow and 50lb/hr injectors. It is a sweet motor with heads that flow 370+CFM as cast - not the LS7 Heads, but new LSX Heads.

1. Is a 90MM TB OK, or should I get one of the new bigger ones: 92MM, 102MM etc?
2. I have a Bigstuff3 in my car that was used with my FI BBC 454. It is 3 years old. Should I continue to use it. I'll probably need to send it in for updating + order a new harness for the COP ignition the LSX uses.
3. Will I be able to use my Accell 300+ (just like a MSD 6AL) or do I just run off the Bigstuff3 alone?

Thanks

Where did you get this flow data?

How much did you pick it up for? If your running the bs3 efi set up that will control everything. No need for the accel stuff. If I didn't have to use the GM controller kit for marketing reasons I would throw a Bs3 on there myself.

Hey Jimbo-here is the link describing the flow of the new six bolt LSX head (based on the LS7 head, but not the same).

http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/0904phr_gm_performance_parts_lsx_454/lsx_ls7_head_specifications.html

97 LS3: I bought it from JEGS for $9299. I purchased the carb style intake, oil pan, 8-bolt flexplate, and water pump from Crate engine depot (pretty good prices but I forgot about GMparts direct - could have saved about $60 or more).

I bought the intake elbow and injectors from Jegs also along with some bolt-in/weld-in motor mounts for my install.

Anyone have comments on the TB size? Is a 90 MM still OK, or should I go with something bigger? I may have to return my elbow (edelbrock) and get one that works with the bigger ones.

90mm is enough... my race car runs a 90mm and goes mid 8's like that.

Cool, I was hoping the 90mm was enough for the LSX454 since I have one.

Thanks

If you want a few more hp, go with the FAST 102/102

Mine gained 23 hp and 19tq from a ported ls7 intake with a 90TB

It's a pretty good chunk a change for these ponies !

Thanks. I wish they (article) had more data on the head flow.
thanks again,

Jimbo,

there is a few more articles out there on those new heads. The CNC version flows over 400 CFM. Pretty crazy stuff -thats darn good for a big block head. LS engine architecture is pretty amazing.

Do some searches for 454LSX GMPP and you'll find more

That LS7 intake kills HP compared to the carb style intake.
GM says the motor loses like 40+ HP going with the LS7 stuff.

The carb style one comes with bungs for injectors. Thats what I'm going with.

You have any more info on that? The fast Intake bolts up correct?

order cary's intake, it is very compareable in price and you can have the dominator flange to run the 4500 series throttle body and fuel rails.. Just ordered one today from Virginia Speed.

I believe the intake port size are the same as the production heads. So the FAST should bolt right up. I'd like to go ITB's but they won't fit under the cowl of a TA .

Greg@RET

Exactly, I like that carys intake but I dont think it will fit under a ss hood.

Guys,

The intake ports on the new LSX 6 bolt heads are similar to LS7 ports. Nothing else will work-definitely not the cathedral port stuff. The LSX-R intake from FAST will work, but if hood clearance is NOT an issue, go with the carb style intake from GMPP or others designed for LS7 ports - they will still make more power than the under hood stuff.

Greg@RET

I will be running a SS hood, so I will go with the FAST intake.

Didn't I read somewhere that a 58x reluctor wheel won't work with our f-body cars? Which is what this motor uses...?

You just have to use the Lingenfelter Converter box to switch the signal back to 24X

A pretty good price overall. But if your going to layout that kind of money. Check with LME or another company and see what they can do with that kind of money. Shopping around is a good thing before spending.

Received my LSX454 last weekend. After checking around, I decided to go with one of the dominator flange intakes from Cary at Performance Induction Specialties. Note the 8 bolt crank flange that requires a new flex plate.

I am sure with a simple cam swap it would really wake up. I like this crate motor because it comes with a 2yr warranty.

In reading the info on that warranty, there's so many limitations, it's almost useless ? Like No Alterations...

Usual, like any production piece but at least there's some assurance if someone gets a lemon ?

They outta do this in Aluminum and stuff it in the Camaro ?

Looks damn nice !

hmm.. thats the same bore/stroke as the 454 LS2 I just built.. but this one has a smaller cam.

Do they state power output?

Greg@RET

620/590 on a engine dyno.

I bet with a cam swap this thing could make close to 600rwhp and im sure all the places that offer porting for ls7 heads could do it on these heads lots of potienal in this motor for a very good price. I think ill be looking into this maybe runing it with a bigger cam and ported fast.

Great comments and yes I almost want to keep it as a decoration in my garage, hell living room if my wife wouldn't kill me.

The 620HP rating from GM is conservative for one, but with the intake from Cary at Performance Induction Specialties, it should make quite a bit more even with the cam it comes with.

600 RWHP should be possible with a cam swap. The heads flow like crazy as cast: 370+ CFM. CNC versions I'm told flow well over 400 CFM.

This is going in a 1977 Chevy Monza that weighed 2990 without driver with a BIG BLOCK. I'm hoping to lose maybe 150 lbs.
