Q's for LS1/4L60E G-Body Owners
My '84 MCSS is receiving a 5.7L LS1 and 4L60E from a 2001 TA. As you can see in the photo, the drivetrain is installed. I'd like to know how a fellow g-body owners with drivable cars with similar combos dealt with a few parts:
-throttle cable. I have the TA's cable, but it it seems too short
-trans shift cable. I'm using a shifter from an '87 MCSS, but the trans side of the '87's cable was too small for the 4L60. I didn't check length.
-power steering hoses. I'm using the stock '84 PS box. I'm not sure if I look for adapter fittings at the box or come up with custom cables.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I used a throttle cable from a camaro{ls1}, bought it from ebay used. The firewall hole has to be opened up to fit, did that with a dremel. The outer cable length was fine but the cable itself was too long so i made a spacer out of plastic where the cable attaches to the pedal so it would get full throttle opening. The power steering hoses bolted up but had to be bent slightly to clear. Shifter linkage on mine is on the column just had to be modified to clear the long tubes. Mine is a 86 g body and should be the same as yours, hope that helps

Thanks for the info. Other than bending the PS hoses, did you shorten them? They seem quite long on my car.

A couple of pics of the power steering lines and the column linkage with the hooker f body long tubes where the cross shaft that bolts to the frame and then runs to the trans had to be raised because it will not shift. I just elongated the holes on the bracket that bolts to the frame to raise it to clear the collector. Also a top view of the power steering hoses

Thanks a million for the steering gear photo. When I put the lines in place, I couldn't remember if anything on the front clip would cause interference problems.
Now, I need to measure for throttle and trans shift cables.

I used the trans lines from a 2000 camaro and a 1989 camaro tpi radiator and fans, all bolted up might have to form the trans lines just a little. Also if you use tpi elec fans the stock 2000 fan wiring will plug right in. I bought a engine compartment wiring harness and used that also from a 2000 camaro. I used a 2000 camaro fuse block from the engine compartment and mounted it to a bracket i made and mounted that between the battery and head lights. I have my ecm mounted on top of the pass fenderwell and my relays mounted between the ecm and firewall mounted on the fenderwell. With the 4l60e trans i bought a crossmember from jegs for a 700r4 but it was way off. I had to cut and weld and redrill the mounting holes.

To those using a factory floor shifter and 4L60E, which shift cable did you use?
My 4L60E and shift cable are from a 2001 Trans Am. While my car is an '84, I have a floor shifter from an '86 equipped with a 200R4. My preference is to use a factory shifter, but I haven't explored what it'll take to secure the 2001 cable to the 1986 shifter. I don't have a cable from the '86.
In other news. . . .

I used the cable for a TH200 3 speed g-body. Same throw as the 200r4 cable, but it was a couple inches longer. The shifter doesn`t seem to line up perfectly and go into all the gears (I can`t get into first gear manually). But I did have to tweak my linkage in a couple places for clearance so maybe there is some binding.
On a side note, the aftermarket (Dorman and pioneer) shift cables for the G-Bodies SUCK!! Their core is just a piece of aircraft cable, so they don`t push well. The GM cable core is aircraft cable spiral wrapped with a metal band so it will pull and push well. Its well worth the extra couple bucks.
