Your rear o2 sensors have nothing to do with the mileage your getting. Rear o2 sensors only check if the catalytic converter is working, nothing else. It is possible your cat is bad or plugged up, causing the SES light to come on, and the plugged up cat would affect gas mileage.
But if your gas mileage is bad it's more likely the front o2 sensors. They're the ones that tell the engine how to change the fuel/air ratio. If they go bad, then the car will run really rich.
Either way, having your rear o2 sensors tuned out won't improve your gas mileage.
