Just like the sixer did Cheap *** plastic (or expensive $30)...

Anyone do anything at home/DIY type of deal? I dont want to waste any money on these things to have them just break again...

I epoxied a piece of wire over the break and it's been holding it together for 5 years.
Redline Accessories sells a wire version that won't break if you don't want to fix the old one.

Just checked redline and it seems they only sell boots, not the retainers.

Unfortunately I just got the car and nothing came with the boot. Maybe Ill grab the remaining peices from the sixer.

The one from the sixer has multiple breaks.. What should I do with the wire??

Scroll to the bottom of the page.

If you want to fix yours, I cut a fairly stiff piece of wire about 2 inches long, if you look at the retainer it's cross section is kind of like an L shape, shape the wire and lay it inside the L so it extends on both sides of the break and cover with epoxy.

Chemically weld it with ABS cement for less than $5: https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...fter-boot.html
