Default Patman: Redline : NJ Winter + 74k miles, + 6300 RPMs= what weight?

I am going with Redline. My car is a '98 with 74k miles on it. I'm in NJ so I will still wake up to some cold temperatures but I rarely drive this car when its cold out. So, you can pretty much rule out me driving this car if its below freezing. It does however sit outside, no garage if that matters. My question is what weight should I go with for now, and what about in late April when the warm weather is here to stay? I do not mind changing my oil at all since its so easy in these cars, so if this means I have to change it after just 1500 to put a different weight in, thats fine.

Also, my Hyundai has 16k on it. It sees 90% highway driving, I do beat on it though. What should I go with in that car?

What about Steph's Hyundai, that car sees 50/50 highway/city, not driven as hard. Both Hyundais only take 4 quarts so its cheap to do them.

Also, at this point what filter are you recommending? I figured I would post this on here instead of email because I'm sure their are some higher mileage guys like me, not sure what weight to go with in their LS1s.

Thanks!

I like to help out my buds whenever I can, and since I don't have an LS1 anymore and can't share my LS1 experiences with them, I can at least share my knowledge of oil that I've picked up.

Now if someone at Redline is reading this, this time I'd like some free oil, not just a free t-shirt and baseball cap!

Redline 10w30 will work very well in your car, if you did a lot of winter driving I'd say to run 5w30 during that time, but based on what you tell me, the 10w30 will be great. I really wish Redline wasn't so expensive up here ($17 a quart is the lowest price I found!) then I'd be running it.

I'd go with 5w30 in the Hyundai's though, especially for winter when you want the fastest flow up to the top of those overhead cam engines. You can safely run 5w30 Redline in the summer in these engines too. Redline's 5w30 will not thin out like most 5w30s tend to do. Their base oil is the best in the business.

As far as filters go, I really like the Wix & NAPA Gold filters, they offer excellent flow just like the K&Ns do, but at a lot lower price. I'm switching to these filters now (which are under the Carquest premium name up here too), since the K&Ns are being phased out at Canadian Tire up here, and are very pricey anyways. Plus the Wix & NAPA Gold filters have a partially fibreglass media and a silicone antidrainback valve. Wix and NAPA Gold are identical, but the NAPA Golds cost more. Bosch Premiums are also very good, and the Walmart Supertechs are excellent filters for those on a budget (they are only $2!)
