Default Jacksonville Machine Shops

Where is there a good machine shop in Jacksonville to get a set of heads milled and ported with new valve guides and valves put in. I also want them checked for cracks and to be bead blasted. I believe Precision Marine does this type of work but was interested in whoever else also does it.

I think at one point or another I've dealt with every machine shop in Jacksonville and I've never been impressed with any of them. Had some good luck at a place down in Orlando but for the life of me I can't remember the name.

Well Skinny. Have you ever tried hand porting a set of heads or actually rebuilding them very well?

I haven't had any of the local shops do any porting for me. I've had heads cleaned/surfaced/valve job done at a few of different places and have had good and bad results from all of them.

Had them key a crankshaft once... looked like he did it with a dremel. Ended up having to trash the crankshaft and get another.

I have used Precision Machine Service and the only problem i have found with them is that they are very slow. It took them a month and a half just to bore 2 dirtbike cylinders for me.

I am taking my money to Mike @ Total Engine Concepts where I can get a balance for $145 They are in West Palm Beach and I'm in JAX so that should tell you something about the options we have here

I'm just glad I'm from Miami so I will just make a weekend trip out of it when I go to drop off and pick up.

I've got my head and Dover right now and waiting to hear back from them which reminds me I need to call them. They're doing a valve job and doing the machine work and installing my larger valves. Went to J&W before that for a cylinder bore and valve job and wasn't happy with them. I won't be going back to J&W. It's really not that hard to P&P heads man. I did mine myself just takes alittle time

Yea I am going to port and polish my heads now. I have done the research and know someone who did it for a living. They said you just have to be careful not to get the intake ports to polished because fuel will puddle up in them. But he said he would help me out. Now on the valve job I am wanting to get a 3 angle valve job.

All ya really need is some stone bits to take away the material and some sand paper flapper wheels to smooth them out. I used 120 grit on the intake side and thought it was a good enough mix of ruff and smooth to be efficient. Smoothed the crap out of the exhaust though

Yep. That is exactly what I have heard. The exhaust needs to be as smooth as you can get it.
