Default Is this transmission slipping or normal? (video inside)

Is this normal? I think it is slipping when it goes into 4th around :24 into the video if you watch the tach. The trans temp is right up around 200* when it is warmed up. Thanks for watching and helping out. I was at about 1/4 when I ran the first time onto the highway, and the second time I was a little bit softer on the gas and it didn't slip at all like it did the first time. I am expecting that it is slipping. Sorry about all of the wind noise, I forgot I left the window down when I was taping

You'll know if it's slipping. First symptoms are like pulses while cruising, jumping 100 rpms. Then shifts will take a little longer. And finally, it will be very obvious it is slipping when you go WOT and the car barely moves and the tach is pegged, lol.

So, that is not a slip, and it is normal? I just wanted to know. So far this car has impressed me in its handling capabilities especially! This thing rocks! It runs right beside, dead even, no movement, to my 02 GTP with a 3.4 setup, headers, and a tune. I kind of expected it to be a little faster though.

Looks fine to me, glad you're liking it. Did you track the GTP?

Before I bought the car it was taken to the track and it ran a 14.2@99.4. The launch was really slow, like a 2.5-2.6 60'. That car has a lot more pull after about 90, which is where my mom raced me to before we shut it down. I think the GTP (with good tires) has the potential to run a 13.99, but I probably will not ever find out because it is just a DD. Another thing that I think affected the race (in favor of the GXP) is that I got stuck in 2nd when we took off at about a 35 mph roll, The GTP won't shift into 1st unless you are going 29 mph or less

The trans temp is supposed to be right around 190*-200* right?

GXPs trap 98-100 stock, sounds about right. Also, racing + mom = awesome, imo.

203 is a little high for 60 ambient temp. Were you driving it hard at all before hand?

No, I was being nice to it. I actually was getting on the gas a little harder in the video than when I was driving it on the way home, just to get it to shift like that. If I keep my foot out of it and only accelerate with about 1/8 throttle then it doesn't shift like that, but if I am just about at 1/4 throttle it shifts like that when it is going into 4th. Then at a little bit heavier throttle than 1/4 at 1:17 in the video it shifts crisp. It seems to be just at that throttle position when it shifts like that.

With easy driving the trans temp should be more around 160-170, I think. It's 80 here and the temps were 200, of course that was with the slipping. Was about the same last year, though. I drive mine a little hard, too.

So, being that it is running a little warmer than it should, would a fluid and filter change fix that?

Possibly, I'm sure someone will chime in and confirm or not. How many miles are on it?

Could probably use a change. I changed my fluid, in my 08, at 37,000 miles and it was very dirty.

I just took it down the highway a little ways to let it get warmed up and when I got back home it was at 190*. I thought it was warmed up pretty good, but there may have been more heat that would have come out if I had driven farther. It is 54* outside right now.

It looks fine, my SS will jump like that when the converter unlocks (like when the DoD swaps)

We have the first dual-mode trannies in automotive history: Once these symptoms start, our transmissions turn into CVTs!!

Change the fluid and see if that helps. If not, I suspect a t.c. going bad. Happens to many of us on here...
