Unhappy worried

I'm stumped!! I have a clunking noise sort of like when brake pads are worn out and become loose, but louder. It seems to be coming from the rear of the car. I have replaced all of the bushings, shocks, brakes and rotors. Everything I check is tight. I jacked the car up and put stands under the axles and removed the tires and I could find nothing loose. I removed the calipers and rotors and was looking at the axles and noticed that I have maybe 1/32" of play on both sides if I pull and push on the axle. Is this Normal or do I have a problem in the rear? I'm afraid to drive the car and it is my daily driver. Anyone know what this is? Thank You for any Help.

The axle movement is normal. Have you checked the u-joints?

Yes I looked at the U-joints and they are good. I was going for the tourque mount originally but it looks good also. There is no vibration at speed 85 mph and the car handles great. Somthing is just loose, when I come out of my driveway i come out at an angle because of the shape of the driveway I can hear a pretty loud noise. The exhaust system is tight, I just don't see it?????

-checked the gear oil

-opened the cover on rear ?

- checked lca bolts, might be loose...

-pulled axles ?

- stock torque arm broke?

- panhard bar bolts?

-bushings might be worn out

just some ideas of a clunking sound....

The bolts (both ends) for the rear lower control arms.

OK so I went and re-tightened all of the bolts in the rear suspension, nothing was loose. I replaced one of the stabilizer end links but i don't think that was it. So we will see today. Thanx Guy's.

Let me know what you find.Mine 94 has been doing it for 100,000 miles and nothing has fallen off yet.

Also take your spare tire and jack out. I did this and still have a clunking sound. About the only thing left is the rear hatch.

Well 100 miles and no noise maybe it's gone I hope. I was just concerened about play in the rear axel, but you say a little is normal. I did have a lot of clanking coming from under my car before I replaced all of the bushings. That's why i was shocked to hear a noise again.

does it make the noise letting on and off the gas if so it sounds like its the backlash on the rear end your gear set is probbly going out mines doing the same thing.
