Default 350 truck motor in boat

I have a boat with a 350 in it that had the water left in it over winter. I believe pistons rods and crank and all are fine just busted the block. Can I use a 350 truck block to replace this block? I know on 4.3 the cam bearings are different but is there anything on the 350 that is different?

Yes, as long as its the same gen block you will be fine. You will have to get new pistons and machine the block for the correct clearance. Do it right with new bearings, gaskets, and rings and it will be like new. Mercruiser starts out with regular automotive blocks, they are nothing special.

You also have other options since the automotive blocks are interchangeable with the marine blocks. You could install a GM crate motor or even a 383 or 400 c.i. if you want. As mentioned, be sure to use the same generation heads if you are using your original intake manifold, assuming that your engine is fuel injected. If it is carburated, just use a matching intake manifold. The flywheel can also be different between the different generation engines or the 400 engine so you will have to be sure to match the engine type.

I replaced a 305 with a 400 small block and only had to change the flywheel and re-jet the carb.

I have a buddy that changed out his mer 350 out for his built 454ci that he had in his 72 chevy. Needed to change out some things (not much) but worked great! and made a huge difference.

Big block exhaust manifolds and all the brackets are different. I have a like new complete set if you are interested. I also tried a 454 in the same boat but the extra weight made the back end sit too low in the water and handling felt strange. I went back to the 400 engine which gives almost as much top speed with a much better feel to the boat.
