Default Radiator and cooling fans? stock vs aftermarket with 440ci

I have a 440ci high compression motor that I will street/strip drive in south Florida and want to keep the cooling temp around 175 to 180. I have a Meziere Race Electric Water and looking for some advise on radiator and cooling fans options.

I am planning on getting a double core radiator, not sure witch one. I will build a new supports and install the fan straight vertical. What do you recommend?

Will I be better off with replacing the fans with an aftermarket like SPAL?

Should I go with a single large or double fan set-up?

Can I wire a aftermarket one into the stock fan wiring harness and still use the low and high speed?

What do you recommend?

What are you using and how is it working for you?

im doing the same as you and will be running a spal fan a single since thats all we will need to keep the temps down also you do not need a large fan i would say a 16inch fan should be bout right and you can use the stock wiring on the fans for the new fan

What radiator are you running?

Have you actual tried it with a single fan and what temp does it run at?

Anyone else have experience with this?

My old radiator was perfect, 22 x 19, double pass with a 55gpm water pump. Single 1600cfm fan will keep it cool in the hot summer months.

you will need to buy a 1/8 or 1/4 aluminum bung to weld on to the radiator for your coolent air tube for the heads also

Well I'm not sure what to say.lol We ran the 445ci, but it was only 11.8:1 and we ran the stock radiator, fans and OEM PCM. The stayed in the 175-180* range here in Texas with the 160* thermostat. Even after a hard 1/4 mile run she was only running 215-220*.

I am not sure what a high compression race motor would require. We may have been right on the edge of our cooling capacity, but we never lost control of the cooling temp.

Definitely on the ragged edge with it climbing like that at the end of the run.

We use the race griffin on a 700hp 408 with the stock fans, and condensor in front of it. I made my own radiator cover from sheet metal and ran the air tube in the stock battery location under the car. AC still intact and all. On spray it will see over 1000hp with the 4l80 in it.

Great idea, maybe I will just treat a pipe fitting into the water pump.

im not sure how the ls1 are but i know it will work forsure on the lt1 engines..

i just didnt feel like paying some one extra to weld another bung to the rad and then having to run an extra foot and a half or so to the rad.

im going to come off the steam hole in the rear of my heads with a 90 for the drivers side and then a T fitting out the rear of the pass side and then 1 line into the pump..that way if i have to pull the heads and stuff it just a matter of unbolting the 2 a/n's on the T an im good..

i believe with ls1 there at the front of the engines right..i would just run a T fitting in the dead middle of the heads and then from there go into the old water pump hole and stuff.

What do you all think about the stock Fans if installed on a better radiator.

My 441 13:1 (LS7 aluminum block) motor was fine on the street with the stock radiator and fans.
I had the stock mechanical water pump-which is very important for a street driven vehicle IMO.
I personally think driving around with a high compression motor with an electric water pump is a mistake.
You being in Florida makes the water pump even more important. I'd seriously look into the Evans pump or the new PRW Industries water pump.

I drive mine alot on the streets and for long distances ~150 miles to MOKAN dragway. I've had zero issues with my mezeire drag pump, afco double pass radiator and dual 12" staggered fans. FWIW, I couldn't go 20 miles on the highway with the stock radiator.....NO WAY.

I order a dual pass double 1.5" row with 16" Spal fan.
What do you recommend for the wiring to run the fan?
Can I just connect one of the stock fan wire harness to the Spal fan or do I need to run a relay off the stock harness?
What do you think?
Bob
