New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - 1st set of newbie mods chronicled!

So, I have had my car since last November. Put an SLP lid on right after Christmas. Then, within the last couple of wks. I have done the following mods: Jet Hot Stainless LT's, Hooker ORY, Magnaflow catback, and an LS6 intake manifold.

Installation: I didn't install the exhaust components myself. I don't have a garage or any of the proper tools. However, I did install the LS6 intake. It was a biotch for my first the first mod I've ever installed. Took me about 8 hrs total and my hands look like I've been attacked by a rabid raccoon. That's with removing the EGR and a few other little things. The freakin shop I took it to charges a fortune but they are well recommended. The exhaust LABOR ALONE was $952! They charged me an additional $744 for the dynotune. They did great work but crap that was expensive.

Impression: I reached 323.7 hp and 323.8 lb/ft of torque on the Mustang dyno. The guy sales pitched me about how the Mustang dyno was more accurate and most others actually add about 10%. I'd like to see if that's true. Overall, I'm pretty happy with everything. My car's putting out about 400hp at the crank now so I can't complain. Just gotta wait for my next step (rearend, clutch, tranny work), which is probably about 2 yrs. out now. Then, on to more power!

$744 for a tune!!!?? WOW bro did they offer a free kick in the nuts after you payed for it? I just put LT's/ORY and a bunch of other stuff on mine followed by a tune. I payed $400 for my dyno tune w/ 5 pulls. Either way if it's running good and you are enjoying it then thats all that matters in the end.

^^yup, around here tunes are 400-450. :(

Yeah, should've went to TSP here in Lubbock, but I figured I would just get it done while my car was in that shop. I think it was so expensive because they're not very experienced and therefore not very fast which equals more expensive but they do good work. Took them almost a full day to hook it up and make the bung for the O2 sensor.

They shouldnt have needed a bung for the 02 sensor

Yeah you could almost get two tunes around here for that price.

And i think the headers would have been easier to install over the manifold. At least in my experience. My manifold was a bitch!

I paid $350 (labor) to have headers/ory put in and new plugs and wires. Then I paid $300 for the dyno tune. Id say that shop was deff. a little high in price.

Yeah. I forgot to mention that they put plugs and wires in also as part of that $952. I know I got ripped.

Just got quoted 300 for plugs, wires, longtubes, Y pipe, and poly mounts here to a local LS1 fan.......


As long as youre happy bro, whats done is done and if you like the car and are happy with the mods! Then woohoo for you! Hopefully be joining you soon with similar mods.

My Header/ORY, plugs/wires, and motor mount install cost me ~$600... and thats with parts and labor included! LOL.

Anyway im glad you are happy though because thats really all that matters.
