Default Tranny knocking noise at idle...is this a problem?

No problems with operation of the clutch or transmission. Just installed refreshed motor with 232/234/112 cam and also used poly motor mounts and when warmed up at idle I can hear a knocking noise. I have upped the idle speed and idle spark and seemed to lessen the knocking sound, but when hot at idle I can still hear it. Is this a problem or a result of the rough cam? Any experience with this? Thought I may go with Syncomesh to help....

Is the noise in your motor or transmission? If its your motor why would you put synchromesh in it?

Sorry for the delay....I can hear it coming from under the car so I am thinking transmission.

Its probably the camshaft creating the noise in the unit. My 94 Mustang does the same thing at idle. Its got a T56 behind it as well.

What is knocking though? It really only happens once the tranny is hot. Would an additive or something like Syncromesh help?

The fluid thins out as it gets hotter. Thinner fluid provides a little less cushion between the gears as they mesh. You can try a different fluid, perhaps something a little thicker but I wouldn't mess with it unless its really bothering you.
