Default How do I stand in the 1/8th mile?

I went to the track tonight. Mods are in my sig, and of course still no tune. Seems to be running pretty good, but my times got worse the more I ran. The temp dropped a lot, but it didn't seem to help. The car is running really rich so maybe I was fouling plugs out or something.

On a good note I didn't lose a single race. I beat several fox body mustangs, a 2009 GT, several sn95 GT's, and my buddy in his 1996 cobra.

The temp was about 85* my first run at an elevation of 560ft.

This run was on 255/50/16 BFG drag radials

Best run on DR's
Reaction- .3221 (first time I have raced in over a year)
60ft - 1.9679 (best 60 foot)
330ft - 5.5968
1/8 ET - 8.5329
1/8mph - 84.59

Best run on street tires (last run of the night)
Reaction- .2389
60ft - 2.2071
330ft - 5.9181
1/8 ET - 8.8942
1/8mph - 83.29

I may have been able to do a bit better with street tires, but I gave up for the night. The only reason I even ran with street tires was to shut the 96 cobra owner up He kept claiming I was only winning because I was running DR's.... I believe his best was a 9.22 which was the first time I raced him on street tires. I have never ran street tires at the track, so it was tough at first. I barely got in it off the line and ran a 9.119 to his 9.22...reallly close race that time.

Only race I was outrun on (but my .02 reaction vs. his .34 allowed me to win) was against a nice Black fox body GT with heads, cam, intake, exhaust, gears, 5 speed, slicks ect. He ran a 8.44 to my 8.56 but my reaction time allowed me to actually win the race.

I am hoping for 8.45 or lower after I get a tune. I think I may also have a cutout install just past my Y pipe because I have no desire to speed the cash on a catback (plus its quiet still and my DD).

I really want to stall it, but I cannot afford a transmission + stall anytime soon.

Times aren't bad at all. You really need a stall. You don't HAVE to build the trans to run a stall. It's just a really great time to do it since it's already out and the stall does put more stress on the trans at WOT.

I don't want to chance a stall in my stock trans, because it will probably kill it.

A Yank SS3600 will not hurt your tranny and your car would have the same bolt-on's as mine and i run 7.53 @90 in the 1/8 w/a 1.63 60ft but if u buy a cheap converter it might hurt it.

OP those are sum pretty good times you got. A little reference my is a 6sp though. Mods are n sig and I was running the exact tire you were. I made 1 pass and got a 8.8 left ACR on by accident. My next and final pass was a 1.96 60ft. With ET 8.37 @ 84.22mph. It was 65 degrees outside at 660ft elevation. All in all nice runs keep at it man. BTW no tune and 3.23 gears are hurting you a little.

I need a tune pretty badly, that is in the works.

If I were to get a Yank converter and my transmission did go out, would the converter be ruined? Or would it be able to be cleaned and reused?

As for the gears...no plans on changing those anytime soon. This is my DD and I have no plans on making it less drivable. My LT1 auto had 3.73s and it was annoying to drive all the time, especially with the full exhaust.

A tune will help a little since you have an A4 car. I would just get a cheap mail order tune. You'd also need some adjusting if you got a stall anyway. You don't need gears at all. I cutting mid 1.5s on my 145,000 mile 3.23s with a bolt on car and running 7.3s in the 1/8.

If you got a quality converter it could be reused if the trans went out with normally just a cut and clean. Worse case is that they have to replace something while its open which still isn't as bad as buying another converter. Check the classifieds for a deal on one.

How good are the 425$ 3000rpm converters Yank sells? I don't need anything insane, but if I can stay on a budget and get that I may try it in the stock trans. I will of course have to add a nice trans cooler and probably throw a temp gauge on for good measure.

Just for an update I did pull a slightly better time tonight. Only thing I did was swap the k&n for a paper filter... for whatever reason my worst run was my previous best...

I am still torn on the stall situation. I am thinking hard about trying the 3000-3200 278mm circle D stall.

Thats the stall I went with and my buddy..I havent installed mine yet.But my buddy did and he added LT's with true duels/Frost mail order tune. running no 02s with DR's he picked up .68 in the 1/8th. His best before was 8.58@85-86 mph on street radials. Now its a 7.90@90-91MPH with 1.7 60ft. hes was running 323s at the time..
