Default Any sponsors in Houston that could rebuild a '71 455 BB ?

I need someone to go through this 455 and tell me what it has in it, and build it into something solid and streetable.

Are there any sponsors that work on older Pontiac motors?

Anyone have someone they would recommend to me that knows what they are doing, and can be trusted?

Pontiac people on the Performance Years forums are happy with Owens Racing. Btw, Pontiac 455s are not big blocks. The reason why is because the Pontiac 350/400/455 are all based on the same block. So there's actually no such thing as a BBC or SBC Pontiac.

they are actually small journal and large journal instead of SB and BB ..

thanks for the name ..

I'd like to use a sponsor here, but just want someone good. I don't have time to mess with it myself .. and the car has been sitting almost a year.

only shop that i KNOW deals with older motors and has been around forever is G&G Performance in Tomball. They also built my 383 4 bolt block a few years ago for my LT1 car. Very quality work.

Edit-they are only a machine shop though so after i reread. sounds like the motor is still in your car.

I am not far from cypress. Don't have much more than a garage, but I can give you some pointers. I also have a real nice solid roller cam for sale that would make that Poncho run.

A couple of good photos of a 455 in action.

thanks for the offer .. good looking car, btw.

my main issue is time.. I don't have time to do it myself, and the guy I bought it from couldn't find the build sheet from the machien shop that did the motor, so I have no idea what it has in it for internals, and no idea what the previous owner did to screw it up after he got it from the shop. It sounds awesome at idle .. but that is all it does .. lol ..

here is a video of it at idle ..

First thing you need to do is get rid of that carb and put a good Holley on it. I run a HP950DP. Put about 32 deg total timing in it. I run a Mallory unilite with the timing locked out. So mine starts at 32 and ends at 32.

Time is the thing I am missing also. Wish there were a few more hours in the day. I am about 115 miles round trip to work and back everyday. Let me know if there is anything I can help with. I live off of 529 and Greenhouse.

Seems like we are all out of time lol. Just gotta make it work, luckily summer is almost here. If your hurt for cash, the Edelbrock carb from Autozone was probably the best few hundred bucks I ever spent on my 400ci Trans Am.

I will let you know in a few weeks about the motor, I might pick up another T/A pretty quick.

Nothing beats a '55 motor with 2.11/1.77 400 heads. probably one of the best low buck (considering) motors you can build.

I have a set of '68 RA 11 heads sitting in the garage but you could probably buy edelbrock heads as well considering it doesn't look like you have a 68 to make a clone out of.

We are in the same boat with our 70 GTO- owner had it built (in the 80's) and died- can't get it to start. time to start over on it. It does have the factory block and #12 heads.

If you get a chance PM me about the 455- my can am will be out of the body shop this summer/fall.
