Default 10 bolt rear cover RTV?

I just finished up doing gear oil change and my gasket is leaking. I want to redo it with RTV gasket maker. Will this do the trick? The cover is straight and old gasket material was removed.
Thanks

Yes, it should work. Just make sure the surfaces are fairly clean. Bob

I used silicon gasket maker and it seems to work okay. I also silicone the drain plugs because they seem to leak as well. It makes disassembly a bitch, but it works.

Make sure the gasket surface on both the differential and the cover are completely clean and free from oil and old gasket or sealant material.

Why not just spring for the gasket at the local auto parts store?

Important point about RTV....it only takes a little. You don't want to be in a situation where it spooges into the case when you put the cover back on.

Get the stuff rated for gear oil. It is gray in color and isn't affectede by the oil as much as regular RTV.

I had the opposite problem....Mine leaked with sealant so I went to Mr Goodwrench and bought a $7 gasket, cleaned things up and good for the last 23K...
