Angry Cannot get EFILive to connect

I just tried to use my EFILive for the first time and I cannot get it to work.
I plugged in the Autotap cable and started up EFILiveV6.

I got the "Unregistered Interface" message so I selected yes to register..

The dialog box picked up the serial number of the interface (it was already recorded and it matched the serial number that was on the registration certificate that came with Efilive) so all I had to do was enter my name, select professional and then enter the KEY with a "-" in between every 4 characters (i.e. 1234-5678-ABCD-EFGH).

Well after I hit enter I get the same "unregistered interface" dialog box again. I cannot monitor anything. However it did pick up my VIN number and some other PCM information.

Please Help!!

Thanks.

Okay... I installed the V5 CD that came with the cable.. That works.
I guess I need to go throught the V5 -> V6 upgrade process like everyone else..

I thought that since I was doing a brand new install I could go directly to V6... I thought wrong.

You should not have to install V5 - you should be able to just go staight to V6.

When you enter you license details make sure that:
1. The serial number that you enter *msut* contain 12 digits. If the serial number printed on the interface cable has less than 12 digits you need to add zeros at the start to make it up to 12 digits. (EFILive V5 uses 16 digits).
2. The registration key must be entered with the same upper case letters and hyphens as it is printed on your EFILive license.
3. You select the correct Standard, Developer or Professional license type from the drop down list box.

Regards
Paul

Paul,
I did just that.. The serial number was detected automatically and it put 2 zero's ahead of the SN.. I didn't touch the SN box.

I select Professional (I have Bi-Di controls) and entered the KEY which was all capitals and a hyphen after every 4 characters.

Even after all that, when I select OK it comes back with the original dialog box stating that an "Unregistered Interface" was detected do I want to register it..
I say yes and I'm right back where I started.

Funny thing is that I get my VIN and PCM information.. So I know it sees the ATAP cable through my COM port.

Any ideas?

Are you using the V5 key that came with your V5 software?
If so, you will need to upgrade your key to V6 (free) here:
http://www.efilive.com/upgrade.html

Yes - Just like a 1965 Chevy key can't be made to start a 2000 Corvette, so have the keys been changed.
Something about "hot-wiring" and joyriding comes to mind.....
