for all of you going with the truck based ls engines, Look out, i just found out that my supposed 5.3 was a 4.8 so i found this, hope no one else gets ripped off.
Its the 8th number in the VIN

You should also check the Casting in the rear of the block.. they usually will show what size the engine is...

But good researching, good info.
