Picked up two new guns this week, help me im addicted..... Got a Mossberg Maverick 88 shotgun to make all tacticool for the house, and picked up a Springfield Armory XD9 today for the wife to go along with my XD40.
As soon as I get them all layed out and cleaned up I will snap some pics.

For actually middle of the night home protection scenario I would probably reach for the shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot.
The .40 would be my back up loaded with hornady critical defense JHP's.
The 9mm would be a last ditch effort in my opinion, I bought it as more of something for the wife to plink with at the range than I did anything else.

On top of that, unless you practice moving and shooting and active shooter situations you will look more like a terrible shooting bad guy from the movies than the pin point accuracy you have experienced at the range.
A shotgun is top-notch for tactical room to room and high stress situations. Point and pull the trigger. Every bad guy knows the unmistakable sound of a pump shotgun when racked.
Very nice choice OP. Get you a pistol grip and tactical light for your shotgun. Load it up with the 00 buck and happy hunting.

one 12g shot = easy to hit while you're groggy & the invader drops instantly. The sheetrock should also slow it down so it doesn't go through multiple rooms. 5.56 rounds will travel through the house and potentially hit someone friendly in addition to maybe not putting them down right away. ARs are more of a distance weapon.

Because any rifle of that type will penetrate several walls, something you probably don't want in a house with several occupants. Not to mention the innocent bystander driving by your house and gets a round through the door of the SUV.

I want an ar15 so that I CAN shoot through walls.
I have experience.with m4's , moving and firing, clearing buildings, I can can even do it while fatigued and stressed.
Its not the right weapon for everyone, it is just what I am most comfortable with.

I remember when I turned 21, not saying you are remotely close to 21, but I had always wanted pistols, a huge stockpile! Whenever I did turn 21, I friggin stocked up on different kinds of guns. Bought a Glock 24C, Glock 17, Glock 20, Taurus Model 92, Saturday night special, Glock 17 frame for a Mech-Tech Carbine rifle conversion, a .30-06 rifle, Remington .308(I think?), modded the pistols to hell and back, only the frame was stock.
I still only have the 24C, .30-06, and a shotgun that I have for years. I was addicted too!
