Default Jesel shaft mounts / Valve Cover issue

I'm having trouble finding a set of valve covers that work with my Jesel sportsman series rockers. I've tried clearancing my stock ones and the adjuster on the rocker arm hits when the valve is being pushed into the head. I bought some ebay ones but they showed up at stock height. I drove to Summit and bought Canton high rise valve covers and they don't clear cylinder number 2s exhaust rocker.

I've tried those possible solutions, I came to the conclusion I possibly need an alternator relocation kit and just some small block valve covers?

Anybody with personal experience please chime in and let me know I'm not the only one having this issue!

These will work. You will have to move your alternator though. Also will have to cut a hole for a breather and or PCV.

I have those valve covers, cleared my shaft mounts easily. I went with a different set recently and those are just sitting on the shelf.

I was hoping to not have to spend 325 dollars on an alternator relocation kit that retains power steering but I'm not sure what else I can do at this point.

The Cantons just barely hit the exhaust rocker, they're actually cut way too deep like complete overkill for the alternator but they're one of the few that are tall enough and center bolt.

Its not the most elegant solution, but do you think you could "persuade" the cantons to fit using a small body work hammer from the inside?

Its what I plan to do with mine if they won't clear my shaftmounts. Like you, I don't want to be bothered with paying extra and relocating my alt, even though my heads are already welded up for perimeter bolt VCs.

Honestly I cant talk myself into spending 300 plus dollars on a few pieces of machined metal and some glorified washers. I just can't do it, I'm going to cut the cantons apart and reduce the relief so they clear that one rocker. I'll start with a body hammer just to see what all is involved in clearancing them but eventually will probably cut and have them re-welded a little more roomy. I also don't see why some material cant be taken off the back of the alternator.

I was hoping someone else would have some info on how they did it themselves but, I may have to pioneer some stuff here!

Cantons aren't chrome, they are just polished

Good luck with modding them, a torch and body hammer is what I was planning. I really don't wanna have to cut and weld them, but will if I have to.

Beat the cover as mentioned. More than likely the Alt will cover most of it up anyway.

I might have to try that route guys. I was going to head over to where the car is being stored in the morning and take some measurements and see how much work needs to be done to custom cut and re-weld them but truth be told I think whoever said it'll be covered by the alternator makes a good point! It's cheaper and if it doesn't fit just keep beating on it. Either way I'll hopefully have a post-able solution for everybody in a few days.

I had the exact same issue with my Canton covers. I just massaged the area a little with a hammer and a dremel and it was fine. The alternator covered up the dimple.

What on the shaft mount was hitting? From what I can tell its the outer most screw that holds down the cylinder 2 rocker pair. Not the bar that it all bolts to itself but the shaft and screw. If I'm right then it BARELY needs to be moved.

You have center bolt or perimeter bolts?

To avoid the costly solution of buying an alternator relocation kit and yet another pair of valve covers I took the handy advice of forum contributors and heated my valve covers and massaged them a little bit with a hammer and piece of pipe. I then took a cutter and ground down a small part of the accessory bracket where the Canton valve covers were much larger then stock. What happened?

It all fit fine, and I avoided the 325 dollar fix!

Yea, Phil from AI shot me an e-mail with a link to those Pro Forms at SummitRacing. If I hadn't already beating my Cantons into submission I'd be saving the money and going with those trust me.
