3.42 or 3.73 or 3.90
Ok i had when i was stock the 3.42 gear in my stock 10 bolts.I then had a set of 3.73 in my 12 bolts then switch to 4.11 because i wanted to see the difference myself.
There is no doubt that 4.11 make the car quicker on acceleration but i dont like the fact(my taste ok ) that for a mostly street car the 1-2-3 are way too close.
So while i need to open my diff again(bad luck) i would like to put something a little less agressive in there. So off course i thought about installing the 3.73 and call it a day but is there a lot of gain with this gear compare to 3.42 I ve really like the fact that with the 3.42 i had a long 1st gear. But i couldnt remember if the 3.73 was making a lot of difference.
Also would 3.90 be a good compromise between 3.73 and 3.90...I heard somewhere that 3.90 are not recommend because they whine a lot.
My goal is to have a good 1st and 2nd gear with a longer 3rd one.I dont wanna spin the 1st and 2nd all the time when i go WOT.
Kinda need some opinion to finally be set on this.My car is 95% a street car and 5% time a road circuit track machine,no drag at all.
Thanks

I had the 3.90's when I got my 9" new. I ended up wasting the gears at the track and put 4.11's in the second time around. The 4.11's felt a tad stronger but now I have a hard time not busting the tires loose in first gear when I want to bang on it.
I am very tempted to this winter, put some 3.90's back in to get some more first gear traction and to improve the MPG's a bit.
If we are talking a mostly street car like mine, I think the best ratio, is the ratio that wont easily bust the tires loose in first. How much RWHP are you making?

I think that in my mind that i would like to go 3.91 but i just received the confirmation from a tech guy at StrangeEngeneering that the 3.91 whine.
Copy\paste from his mail:
***The 3.90 is prone to some whining in the 12 bolt. The 3.73 does seem to be quieter.***
What do you think and does anyone got those ration in a 12 bolt.
Thanks
