GM may have thickened gasket dimension because of cold engine piston slap complaints. When carbon builds up enough on pistons it can actually touch head and cause noise in extreme cases, as motor heats up clearance grows between them.This is probably the case in many so called piston slap cases, not loose fitting piston to bore condition that most people believe is causing it.
