Okay i have been a mustang man for the first 4 years of driving... i have owned 3 different mustang gt's for my last 3 cars but i want to get a Trans AM. I dont race to often but i like/want a faster car then my bolton 02gt. This car has caught my attention how do you think it would work as a DD. I only put like 150 miles or so a week. LMK what you think... also how are trans ams as daily drivers? Thanks
Its a 2001 trans am auto 67k miles with these mods/numbers
Mods: All Bolt Ons, TSP 233/239 .598/.603 113 LSA
Suspension: slp strut tower brace, slp sub-frame connectors, edelbrock torque arm, box welded lcas, poly motor and tranny mounts
Transmission: Yank SS3600 torque converter
Rear end: 3.73 gears
Tuned by Speed Inc. 400 rwhp 360 rwtq

you've come to the dark side...
for the right price thats defiantly the way to go, tasteful mods, cam seems a little big for stock heads but that just means theres more power to be made http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.ls1tech.com/get/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif
the rearends dont hold up like fords tho.. but if your not racing no worries

I am sure it is well tuned since Speed Inc. tuned it so yeah it should be fine as a DD. Find out how many miles on the valvesprings as that is a pretty agresssive cam and can be tough on springs depending on how it has been driven. I don't know what vintage Stangs you drove but the f-body chasssis may seem less refined but it will spank a bolt-on GT handily in a straight line....
Welcome to the LSx world.... Be warned LSx power is addictive and before long you will be posting what heads and intake you should be considering.....LOL...

I own 4 different f-body's since i was in high school and now I'm 26 so i don't know much about mustangs, to me they are ugly and slow!! no offense but I'm CAMARO TO THE END!! That being said you are making a great decision LSX rocks and don't need a supercharger to go fast!!

Alright, thanks everyone...
So do you think that cam and that torque converter will be too aggressive for a DD?

See i like the looks of mustangs but they are a bit to slow for me... put all this money into boltons and what not and it still only has like not even 300, they respond so crappy to mods and i dont feel like investing into a s/c...

I don't know a hell of a lot about autos but I'm pretty sure that the bigger the stall, the less the mpg. Shitty gas milage+DD=empty wallet.

^ Yea i think your right... that has crossed my mind
But if i were to drop it to like a 3000/3200 stall would that be okay or would it not really help any? Cause i dont really need a huge stall
Also what kind of labor do you think it would cost to get a new torque converter in???

That seems fine for a DD imo I drove around DD with a 4000 stall an a little bigger cam then that didn't have any drive ability problems. As long as it is tuned right you will be fine... plus you don't buy one of these cars to look at the gas mileage.

You don't really need this car either (none of us actually do), but you want it.
I've had 3400, 4000, 4400 (current) stall and while it is loose, I certainly wouldn't put less than 3600 in these cars.

I get charged $300 to put in a converter. Basically you'll spend that plus a new converter or restall to go slower. :bang:
When the weather cooperates I'll make a little drive around video.
Also, we need pics!

False. Once the converter locks up you'll get the same mileage as any other auto.

My camaro gets 12-16 mpg in the city and 28-32 mpg on the highway with a 4k stall. I would buy it :D

Yea im not really worried about gas mileage as long as its not like 10-12 but as long as yall think thats combo of stall and cam is okay i may have to get it! :)
Also what do you mean as once it "locks up" it will be the same as any other auto? Whats lock up mean... i dont know too much about these things

The stall is big because the powerband of the cam, if it was an m6 you would need taller gears. That stall us actually small for that cam. I don't dd my car but big cam=big stall.

Depending on the heads, 25-50 rwhp. Like stated before see how many miles are on the springs. You don't want bad springs with a big cam. Bad business.

I have a Yank SS3600 with a 230//234 cam in my car and could EASILY DD it if I had to. I live in NC and have driven the car to Ohio twice, DC, Atlanta and Deleware w/o a hiccup.
On another note I just noticed it had an Edelbrock torque arm. They are prone to snapping and this will wipe out other shit with it. Hell I think the stamped stocker may be stronger. like UMI, Spohn and BMR in that order.....

How many miles are okay for the springs?

Don't listen to all these newbs saying that stall is too small, bad gas milage whatever!
It's a cam only auto making 400 to the wheel but yet the stall isnt BIG enough? Give me a break, it's performance modified don't expect 30mpg lol
buy... drive it... Enjoy it man, these cars haul ass, you won't regret it.

lock up meaning the converter is no longer slipping, once you accelerate and stay at a constant load it will lock up making it the same as any regular converter. till you mash it i couldn't imagine not having one with that cam would suck.

Seems to not need any repairs from what he is saying... and yea thats my plan! BUT i have to sell the stang first :(

Ahhh alright man, that makes sense... thats what i was thinking.
But does it also mean the car will have slow accelerating during normal driving?
