Hi ls1 tech guys,

I’m planning on putting a Borg Warner T5 out of a 1983 Camaro Z28 in to my 1984 Camaro z28(my Z28 at the moment has a 700r4), but I have A modded 350 Goodrench crate motor (about 310HP/370LB-FT). Will the 1983 Borg Warner T5 take that much power?

NOPE! World Class T5's only handle 200-250ish, your gonna blow it up if u beat on it. i hav a 98 with a T5, i looked into T5 builds and you can get one with the stock gear ratios that can handle 300-350 for about $2000

Skip the T5 and go straight to the T56. I had a T5 in a 92 Formula, and it was noisy from the day the car was brand new. The dealership could never get it to shut up. And it was only 225hp.

An 83 is a NON WorldClass T5... Has a power rating of 260ft/lbs.... The 88+ is WorldClass and handles 300ft/lbs and the 1993 Spec Z is 335ft/lbs...

I would skip directly to a T56 setup from a LT1 to run on your GEN I smallblock... A NWC T5 will fetch 300-500$ on ebay complete from flywheel to tailshaft. Use that to start saving 1-1.5k for a T56 swap.
