Default T56 swap -- must-do's, and interchange

This is going in a '68 C-10 Chevy truck, with a modified LQ4 (LS2 heads and Cam).

Besides 98-02 Camaro, are there any other transmissions that are a direct replacement of the 98-02 LS1 Camaro style T56's that I can bolt in behind the LQ4?

Do I just need to worry about the VSS hookup, or are there other differences among other late model GM T56's?

Any general things to specifically avoid about any years setup?

Thanks

Are the GTO 6-speeds the same as 98-02 Camaro? Anything to watch out for with that?

They are the similar, but the gear ratios are different, and they are a lot more expensive.

I would suggest going with the GTO gear ratio in a truck unless you have some really low gears in the differential.

I should be able to get 4.56 gears and the F-body trans for about the same cost as the GTO trans, from the way it looks! -

Thanks

Found an LS1 T56, now I just have to move the shifter (I think...)

I guess I'll have to do some measuring before I get too excited about that.

You can do a mid shift conversion on the T56 but that involves tearing the unit down and changing parts inside of it.

Hopefully I won't need to do that, but good to know -- thanks

What did you end up doing with the shifter location? I am doing an LS1 T56 swap from a 2004 GTO into a 70 Chevelle with bench seat. Not sure what to do with shifter location. Any insight on how to get a good shifter location?

I left it in the stock position and made my own shifter stick that made a sharp bend to the front and then up and around the seat. It came out very nice actually

The shifter came through the floor just slightly behind the front edge of the seat, but there was still enough room to make it work.
