Racer's Lounge - No more TA..hello Jeep..

I needed the 3rd row for the family here soon (having a 2nd kid next year), and I figured I can afford it now, so why not...
I wasn't into my TA like I used to be (it just sat in the garage and didn't move) and I knew I could get more for it than my other vehicle (04 Grand Cherokee). I sold the TA on Ebay for 14,000 and picked up a 06 Commander Limited 4x4 for 18k in Brandenton, Fl.
It has almost every option on it...Nav, Saddle leather seats, memory seats, heated seats, park assist, rain sensing wipers, smartbeam headlight dimming...basically everything except the 5.7l Hemi and DVD system. It is sooooo much more luxurious than my current Jeep and any fbody.
I will get another fast car eventually...but it was time to be responsible and focus on the family since the car hobby was draining the bank account..

Looks nice, but I have to ask, why did you need the third row? Two kids doesn't really compute to needing a third row...
Still a nice looking Jeep.

Two kids equal a GTO.... ;)

depending on how far apart the kids are age wise, each having a row to themselves is a good idea. my dad figured that out after there was bloodshed in the backseat of his extended cab pickup.. he bought a suburban.

We go places with family/friends too. And with 2 carseats (or 1 carseat and 1 booster seat), it limits who you can take with you in one vehicle

I have two kids and we work just fine with a G6 and a non-third row Rendezvous. In another 4-5 years when we think about another kid, then I'll look into third row...
I've always liked those Commanders though, and those seats are killer.

This makes more sense. I'm just happy to not see a minivan in your first post. Enjoy the new Jeep, and congrats on the new addition to the family.

We could've gotten by with our current Jeep and using another car..but lets be honest, a cammed, stalled, slammed TA with 4.10 gears and dumped TDs isn't quite the family road trip vehicle.. and having to take 2 car somewhere isn't something you want to do all the time.
Thanks for the compliments though..this Jeep is nice as hell. I will miss the looks and compliments I got in the TA, but I enjoy driving this much more

we love the seats too. something different than the standard black/grey/tan...they really look good against the black carpet and lighter dash

How do you like it so far?
It's basically a three row Grand Cherokee, right?
I've gotta say, the premium Jeeps have amazing interiors.

I've been wanting a Grand Cherokee, but as we all know Just Emptied Every Pocket. ;) I still want one. Would LOVE to do some mudding!

I love it so far. The options it comes with blow the other vehicles in it's class out of the water (in my opinion). It has the rain sensing wipers, smart beam headlights (turns on highbeams and then will turn them off when it senses a car coming at you or taillights in front of you). I do not care for the Nav in it, but they put the newer Nav in the 2007 and newer Commanders, so I might see if I can switch it out.
I was thinking about getting another fast car next year, but I might trade my 04 Grand Cherokee for a newer Commander or a newer Grand Cherokee. I have been pleased with every Jeep I have owned so far, and I plan to continue to own them for a while.
The Commander is built on the same chassis as a GC, and is only about 2 inches longer, and a few inches taller to fit the 3rd row. I wish they were going to continue to make them, but 2010 is the last year :( I don't know if they will come out with another 3rd row model or not...hopefully they do, or when the Commander has to go, it will have to be replaced with something non-Jeep :(

Won't need 4x4 in Florida. Should of Got CTS-V Or G8 GT or TBSS :D There all around same price.

none of which have a third row seat...
And I am from Florida, and am stationed here now, but will most likely be heading to VA or somewhere north next October...
And just because you don't *need* 4x4, doesnt mean you wont use it

I Agree, & you can also take it out on the beaches!
I traded my highly modded Cavalier in for a Wrangler(different than a Commander but still an SUV) & I miss the power sometimes that my Cav had but there is no other "lifestyle" or following that even comes close Jeeps .

Still a nice looking Jeep. Lol like how some people have one kid and they run out and buy a damn Suburban.
That Jeep is sweet, I remember I wanted a lifted Commander a while back. It's nice having all that extra room and I will probably pick up a G8 GT or Ram 2500 soon to haul my friends around. Leaning more towards the truck since I buy so many cars and need something to tow them with.

I do alot of things with family/friends, and having to take 2 cars just because there isnt enough room for 1 person sucks, so having room for 7 works great

Hows it move? I know that the 4.7 cant get out of it's own way however if it's the 4.7 h/o in the jeep grand now that shit's fast!

Commanders are my Demo of choice at work... I love them, plenty of room and tons of power if you have the HEMI!!!..
Sounds like a good deal too...!!!
99FormulaM6
05-21-2010, 06:42 AM
4.7 has plenty of get up and go. Not as much power as the Hemi, but fuel economy is the same, and towing capacity is the same as well. The 4.7 is cheaper on maintenance too...the Hemi has 16 spark plugs and it has the MDS (multi displacement system) which I wasn't too keen on, especially since it didnt help fuel economy to be any better than the 4.7

Does the mds have problems? See just like I keep tellin people more shit to break and fix. I just know that the 4.7 in the ram 1500 cant get out of it's own way,This coming from someone who has rented one.....and it's like 0-60 in oh.......8 years LOL.
