Post Suspension

Ive heard that installing V6 rear springs on a trans am will give a better launch due to a better weight transfer? any opinions on this?

Many choose this route because they perform great for weight transfer and are a cheaper method for improvement instead of buying high dollar aftermarket ones. So to answer you, YES they have proven to perform real good.

Every other time this has been brought up concerning a 4th Gen...the rear springs are the same in a V8 and V6 car...


edit, did a quick search, you would have to get them off of a 93-97 Fbody

93-97=95.4
98-02=114

you want it stiff in the rear, you are wasting momentum with the car squatting on soft springs.

My thoughts exactly...didnt want to start a pissing match. as to so and so said to do it like this.

"loose" in the front, "stiff" in the rear. But you also want the rebound in the front stiff so you dont unload the rear.

Every suspension setup is different per car. In the end you want as much forward momentum rather then up and squat down momentum, basically like leap frogging the car off the starting line. We run the front as tight as possible without it spinning or slowing down in the sixty foot and real stiff compression wise on the rear.

Many people may have other opinions but just what we do and seems to work so far.

Having a stiff suspension is great for a lightweight car with little to no traction problems but in a full wieght car you need a little bit softer rear suspension to get the traction. I agree you lose time by first squatting and then taking off but its between spinning and squatting then I will take the squat every time.

This /thread.

A little anti-squat will push the back tires into the pavement creating more traction. Squat does the opposite. Heavy cars need the front settings looser than a light car. Heavy cars need quicker weight transfer/more weight pushing the rear tires into the pavement for traction.

**edit**

You can run a softer rear spring and set the suspension up for anti squat and still get decent traction. It'll just take a little more work.

Race cars dont squat GIRLS do!!!!. I prefer the stock springs over any of the progressive springs. If the chassis and suspension is right then the springs arent doing anything after the car starts to move. The shocks if valves correctly along with the suspension will make the car move forward.

Most people keep stock springs and either cut them a bit or even remove the isolater. But keeping the stock springs is because they work with the rest of the suspension, if the rest of the suspension is working perfect.
