Default How did you install longtube headers?

Just finished my poly MMs (and tightened them) and having some trouble with my Pacesetter LTs on the driver's side. I've been reading a ton of old threads and it seems like there are so many different variations on how people have gotten them in. Just wanted to see what the most common thing people do to get longtubes in in a nice little poll.

Check all that apply!

i was changing the oil at the same time we did the install, both went right in pretty easy as long as you have the car up high enough.

I pre-ground my K member before even test fitting my headers. They fit right in like a glove.

All the ones I've done, have gone in (from the bottom of course) no problem. Never had to mess with motor mounts or steering shaft.

I'm sure it's a little different from brand to brand, but mostly, I think it's just a matter of getting the car up high enough to snake them in. Once the stock exhaust is out of the way, it's never taken me more than just a few minutes to slide them up and put a bolt in.

SLP headers drivers side went in no issues after loosening the steering knuckle. The passenger side took 2 small bangs on the firewall to get it in.

I had to cut the tab off the block, remove oil filter, remove that thing that unbolts next to the filter, and unbolt the steering knuckle. Pass side was cake even with the plugs in haha.

Is this the steering knuckle everyone's talking about? I took the one out on the right side of the picture, but the thing doesn't really move anyway.

That would be the one. Actually to do my cousin's ARHs we had to go to the end that comes out of the firewall. I took out the wire clip, slid the black sleve off and slid the white busing out of the mount on the firwall. It didn't actually diconnect the shaft but it did give us plenty of movement to get the header through there.

I didn't mess with the bolt in the joint for too long. at first I took out the bolt but found I didn't have enough room to slide the shaft apart without unbolting more stuff. I put the bolt back in and did as I described above.

I have also installed jet hots and hedmans with no issuse at all, just had to get the car high enough.

When I installed Pacesetters in my garage, I removed the steering shaft. When I installed Hookers on the lift at work, I didn't remove anything.

I don't remember if my TSP Y came with instructions or not, but I don't have them. I have 4 U Bolt Muffler clamps and 2 wide pipe clamps. Can someone tell me where each of the clamps go? I have the Y pipe put together, just need to clamp them.

Also, do you assemble the Y pipe and then put them on the loosely attached headers or do you assemble the Y pipe piece by piece under the car?

My Grotyohann's were done on jack stands back in 2001, and IIRC we had to take out the engine mount bolts on one side to get them in. When I switched to ARH's about 2 years ago on a lift, they would not fit with the aftermarket Torquemaster starter I had, but fit perfectly after installing a stock starter.

also consider unbolting the trans mount, and jacking up the trans a little.
