Racer's Lounge - Dana White is a moron.

I can usually deal with most of Dana's promoter-speak, but what he did to Nick Ring on the last TUF was really despicable.
Basically, Ring tore his ACL for the third time and needs another ACL reconstruction. When Dana heard about this, he said that he was told by the doctor that Ring could still fight on it. When he talked to Ring, Dana acted disappointed toward him and made it sound like he was quitting the competition. He even said, "So you're just going to quit?"
That's a horrible thing to do to the guy. Fighting on an ACL tear is not safe in the least. The doctor was a moron for even suggesting that he could fight on it. You're risking a PCL or a meniscus tear, especially for a guy that's had multiple tears before. Ring made the right decision for his career, and Dana made him look like a quitter for it. Putting pressure on him to fight with it is just a terrible thing to do.
Somebody should heel hook the shit out of Dana and then ask him to run a mile so he can see how it feels to perform physical activity with an injury like that. Really pathetic of him.
Definitely one of the more idiotic things Dana has said.

He's always dancing on the line to push the promoter persona, and now he finally crossed it where he looked stupid and can't really get out of it.
Jesus Christ, a few episodes ago, Tito grabbed his shin a MOVED everything under the knee around. It was almost like his shin wasn't attached to his femur. I almost threw up when I saw how much give it had. It was basically loose.

I would have loved to see Chuck Lidell knock out Dana White when he got heated at him a couple of shows ago.. Dana White was almost shiting his pants..
Dana White made MMA what it is today, but still he is arrogant and annoying, self rightous, and obviously can be a turd at times..
I believe he needs to get knocked out just for the hell of it.. A humbling experience of sorts.. He talks way too much shit sometimes.

I don't remember, but did he injure it training or fighting since the show started? This season has been kind of boring I don't remember much of it.

He'd already had two ACL reconstructions prior to the show, and he tore it again in training.

I was pretty surprised when he said that to Ring. I tore my ACL, lateral meniscus, and PCL this year and I know full and well that I wouldn't be able to compete at that level of MMA with a knee that is barely holding together. Ludicrous.

whats sad is dana expects less from his fighters and champions...... there have been many many times in the past where big name fighters had to withdraw from fighting due to an injury that happened in training for their upcoming bout
i dont see dana calling up any of his big name fighters and asking them to fight injured or if they are just gonna quit
dana has said in the past that the ufc is so competitive that if you're not 100% you shouldn't even show up.......
so if nick shows up and fights, blows his knee out, looses, then because of his loss he might be out of the ufc and he will need surgery and rehab and it will be a while before he can fight again...... thats pretty stupid to me, dana should know about knee injuries...... after all they are the most common injury in mma and if you cant use your knee then you cant strike, wrestle, or grapple so how the hell are you suppose to fight???
i think dana is trying to sound all macho and tuff and realistically everyone that knows anything about the sport and knee injuries understands that dana is an idiot
i mean dana might as well have said that cote quit in his title fight against anderson
or forrest quit after he agreed and signed to fight lil nog cuz of a shoulder injury......
if being injured and pulling out of a fight because of your injury means that you are a quitter
THAN ALMOST EVERY SINGLE FIGHTER IN THE UFC IS A QUITTER
all nick is trying to do is try to keep a bad situation from getting worse and fix his knee before it get so bad he wont be able to fight for a long time....... if he did fight and blow out his knee and had surgery and rehab and was out from fighting for 8-12 months, then who is gonna pay his bills the whole time he is out??? if he cant fight, he cant put food on the table and make the mortgage so is dana gonna pay his personal bills??? i dont think so
.

Nick ring shows a lot of heart and appeared to be a darned good fighter. He also has a very level head and was thinking responsibly! First taste of blood in the water by the other guys in the semi's, they'd start kicking that left leg to chop him down. Just like what happened to Kimbo last season!

Ok I finally saw it. You can't really make any accurate judgments off of what you saw due to all the editing. There is no telling how that conversation really played out, but it did seem as though Dana was being a tad too rough.
Either way I don't pay any attention to what's say on TUF anymore. Out of a 20 minute conversation, you might see 2 minutes of it.
On another note, Nick Ring wasn't going anywhere anyway and it showed in his last fight. He clammed up and looked extremely unimpressive in comparison to the experience he's suppose to have.

The doctor said he could fight and continue on the knee, the dude was favored to win the damn thing perhaps as well. For this one instant I happen to agree with Dana White.. This was a chance in a life time for this guy, he should have wrapped the knee heavily and went for it. He probably had one fight left on the show, and then the finals after that..
He could have been the next ulitmate fighter, now he is a no name and back to the car wash washing cars or something. Dana probably won't even let him back in now after this.. The knee needed surgury anyways, and I highly dought he would have killed his career over this injury, he had already been training and fighting on it anyways thus far..

Wrapping your knee does nothing to help with instability. Even the effectiveness of de-rotational braces has been questioned in recent studies. Do you ever talk about anything you have knowledge of, or are you always just leaking bullshit out of that hole in your face?
I'm telling you right now from experience that if you fight on an unstable knee, without an ACL, that you are jeopardizing every part of your knee. Your posterior cruciate ligament and your entire meniscus are at a huge risk of damage that can only be corrected with surgery, and your medial collateral and lateral collateral ligaments are at a higher risk as well. I have no ACL right now and I can't even jog a fucking quarter mile without my knee buckling, much less box or grapple.
The doctor that told him he could fight on it is a fucking moron, and I can provide you with a testimony from two different surgeons, two orthopedists, and two physical therapists, all who told me not to even think about grappling with a torn ACL.
I'd love to see you tell the guy that he's a quitter with a "fag voice" to his face. You're a big tough guy on the internet, but Nick Ring would beat the shit out of you even with a torn ACL in real life. Again, your affinity for bullshit and the childish way you act make me consider removing you every time you post in fear that your persona could possibly infect and spread throughout the lounge.

I am fully aware of the extent of his knee damage. Like you Vendetta I also had knee reconstruction myself 11 years ago.. Torn ACL..
The fact is his knee injury was pre-existing and a small tear and that he was able to compete and fight successfully on it up to that point. This led Dana White, the "doctor" and myself to believe that he could have continued fighting on successfully with it, like he had been doing thus far. This was a real opportunity to make a real name and career for himself in the UFC..:bang:
Chances like this just don't come around but once in life time, especially when your just one fight away from the championship round. I just feel he should have tried to fight on with a heavily wrapped knee. Protect the knee as much as possible and fight on. He would have looked brave on the show, a stud in Dana Whites eyes, and as it was looking he had a realistic chance of winning the damn thing.. He was probably the best fighter on the show.
I'm no tough guy these days, and I would not call him a fag to his face. I was wrong to say that, I just get frusterated..
Honestly speaking though, I personally would have put it all on the line at that point with that same injury and with the same chance he had to become the next Ultimate fighter champion, sign a six figure contract and so on.. I swear to that!!!
Relax on removing me Vendetta, if you feel you must then just do it. Other wise don't bring that shit up anymore.. A small tear? When did you hear that? There's no such thing as "a small tear" in your ACL. Either it's ruptured or it isn't. His ACL replacement from the previous surgery was pulled out and was no longer functioning. He needed a new reconstruction.
Again, taping or wrapping a knee with a ruptured ACL does nothing to support the injury. You need a de-rotational brace, and even the effectiveness of those types of braces is being questioned by studies and medical publications these days. You conveniently ignored that I even said that, and you should already be aware of this if you had to have ACL reconstruction.
I mean, where are you even getting this information? Do you actually make things up like this all the time? I mean, you do it compulsively. You have a real problem with compulsively making up stories or lying. Get help, it's not normal. Did you even really tear your ACL, or are you making that up, too? What type of tissue did you use for your reconstruction? What was your recovery like? How long were you on crutches? I'm starting to doubt every single thing you say when you make random things up in every single post you make on this forum.

Vendetta's verbal beat downs of Jibby are usually nothing less than epic.
I didn't think Ring was impressive at all, but it was probably because I was expecting a whole lot from due to the build up of what experience he's suppose to have. Either way, calling him a nobody with a "fag voice" is pretty childish.
In a nut shell, this season is garbage just like the last few. No real talent that is going to be a threat in the division, and the fucking drama makes me want to puke.
I've kicked myself so many times for not showing up to TUF try outs. I could have done the LHW, HW, and possibly the MW if the cut didn't kill me. I just can't be away from my kids that long, especially since I have full custody.

As far as the talent. Yeah, I totally agree. Watching these guys grapple is like watching a drunk person puke. They're so low on the chain that I think a few white belts at my gym could probably have a good chance at tapping some of these guys out. To encourage an athlete to fight on a damage joint is bad but the fact that its been injured TWICE before is just sad. It just goes to show he does not care about who is fighting in his sport, but rather just seeing his show go on making money.

That's not true. An ACL can tear without the tendon being completely torn. Slight tears can be healed without actually going in and reconstructing it, although it's rare.

The ACL isn't a tendon, it's a ligament. I'm not a doctor, so I shouldn't have said it's impossible, but the ACL is such a small ligament that it's very rare to see it mildly torn. I'd guess that that's what they refer to as an ACL "sprain" more often than not. It obviously wasn't a simple sprain or mild tear that Ring was dealing with, so I don't know where Jibby was getting that, but I was wrong in stating that it's impossible.

Long story short, I agree with Ven that it would be near impossible to fight on any complication with an ACL. Most full ACL tears/injuries require air casts just to stabilize the knee and comfort the person. Thankfully I haven't had a serious knee injury yet.

They're so low on the chain that I think a few white belts at my gym could probably have a good chance at tapping some of these guys out. I still watch every episode religiously, but the poor grappling and general thinning of talent really bums me out. They're a far cry from the type of talent they brought in during the first season.
this sums it up.
i have not missed an episode in years. you know its a bad season when i cant tell you one single name of the contestants.
when talking to my wife about it, we discuss the guys using key qualities (ie: afro, bearded guy, busted knee, etc etc)
horrible horrible season with minimal threat to current ufc fighters.

Long story short, I agree with Ven that it would be near impossible to fight on any complication with an ACL. Most full ACL tears/injuries require air casts just to stabilize the knee and comfort the person. Thankfully I haven't had a serious knee injury yet.
I can get around without any kind of brace or cast right now, but this is 7 months after the initial injury. I was in an immobilizer/brace for around two months before I could walk without one. And I'll be on crutches and in an immobilizer for about 3-6 weeks post-op.
You really can't do anything athletic aside from riding a bike, though. I have to make sure that my body weight is directly on top of my left leg at all times, otherwise my knee is likely to give. It buckles when getting out of cars, stepping sideways, and just randomly. I tried jogging on a treadmill and throwing a baseball. Both didn't go well at all, and I haven't tried them since.

I wasn't aware that "Dana White" was a common name among blacks.
