Hi All,

Just bought a set of new LSX main bolts (take outs replaced with studs). Are these TTY or can they be reused? I'll prolly run studs, but needed something to get my block on the boring bar...

I know that you want to get your block on the boring bar, but I would use the studs (which are for the final build) for machining. Different bolts/ studs apply torque differently and it will effect the final machining tolerances.

its just being bored, not a big deal.

on a side note, the main bolts are reusable.

Ditto, the bolts are fine for boring the main line, however, use the studs when you hone it.

Why are you boring the mains? Just curious.

i think he is talking about boring the cylinders....

Ah, I see. In that case, I'd rather use the studs, torqued to spec.

on the boring bars ive seen, you dont use the main caps at all. it just sits on the main itself and clamps down with a deck clamp.

Thanks!

Wasn't sure, I was thinking the boring apparatus was referenced off the crank bore and needed to be clamped with the main caps torqued over it...

Are you planning to align honing the mains? I thought they align hone the mains first before they do the cylinder bores... I may be wrong though.
If you are align honing the mains, you would want to use the studs as the main bores will distort differently with the studs compared to bolts.

I was wondering if it would be worth torque plate honing with the studs that will be going into the motor. Run the risk of the machine shop loosing them or damaging them!
