Road Racing - accusump/oil accumulator questions

I have a few questions i have searched, and cant find answers for about the accusump and oil accumulators. I dont know too much about motors or accumulators. So sorry if the answers are obvious, and correct me if im wrong. I was planning on using a manual valve. The motor is a 98 ls1 out of a ta.

1.Should i be concerned that when used for pre-oiling, the crankcase will be flooded until the motor is turned over? Is there a more effective pre-luber for these motors?

2.Should i be concerned that the accusump will fill itself up first when the motor is turned over, using up oil pressure?

3.Will problems occur with the accusump at idle? will it release?

4. How effective are the sandwich adapters when used with these systems? Is a check valve needed? Does it effectively transfer oil to bearings and such?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, i figured there would be useful info here.

Thanks

I understand your questions as I've had the same myself.
Contact Canton Racing Products at 203.481.9460 or www.accusump.com.

They told me to have a pressure release valve just under the normal oil pressure for your engine. This makes sure the reservoir collects the oil and dumps it when the pressure is low. If you can't mount the reservoir near you, then a remote (electric) switch is helpful as you will open it just before you start the engine. I have not heard about any problems with the “sandwich adapters” that bolt to the block above the oil filter.

1. No that is nothing to worry about, I pre-oil all the time with no issues

2. No that is not an issue either, it will not steal the idle pressure

3. It depends if you release the manual valve.. why would you go with a manual valve anyway?

Sorry I don't have # 4 for you

Get an electric valve and it will eliminate your worries for first 3 questions if you are not too sure still on how it works

No, you shouldn't be concerned because the oil once the car is at running pressure will go back to the accusump

2.Should i be concerned that the accusump will fill itself up first when the motor is turned over, using up oil pressure?

The accusump should have oil stored in it when turning the vehicle off. The oil stays pressurized and does not use any oil from your pan and drop pressure. It raises pressure so that you know the engine is being pre oiled

3.Will problems occur with the accusump at idle? will it release?

If you have the EPC switch, depending on which one you have and the idle pressure you run, the accusump will discharge during idle if lower than 25 psi. As soon as the pressure increases, the accusump will refill. It has a one way valve so that oil can go in but not out until the pressure drops to the threshold of the epc switch.

4. How effective are the sandwich adapters when used with these systems? Is a check valve needed? Does it effectively transfer oil to bearings and such?

The sandwich plates are as effective as your factory oil passages from the pump can be. A check valve is only needed with a manual valve becuase a manual valve runs off of pressure differential so it can backflow as where the epc is pressurized oil and it goes withthe flow of the oil pressure.
The accusump will keep the pickup submerged so thay the bearings do not starve at all.

Thanks you kurki. I remember speakign with you when you had your issue with the RX7.

Im glad the hear everything is working out.

Yep I got it all figured out. To the OP, make sure to read directions carefully when setting up the system initially or re-setting it up.

Very true.

If you plan to remote mount the pressure gauge, Recharge it without oil in the system to 60 psi and let is sit overnight and make sure that the pressure doesnt drop.
