Default Advice on 10-bolt situation

I currently have the stock 18k mile 10-bolt in the car with 3.73's. With my Auto I have been cutting 1.5 60's on it for some time now without it skipping a beat (knock on wood). My buddy recently bought a 9" so I'm thinking about purchasing his stock 10-bolt . It has 130k miles on it and is untouched except for a set of 4.10's that he recently installed. The car was an M6 that rarely saw the track but got driven hard on the street. I simply want it to see how the car responds since it is currently undergeared, with 4.10's I will be crossing the traps right at redline and it will get me closer to my 11.0 goal by winter. I am nowhere near being able to afford a 12-bolt so that is out of the question and I am not going to throw money away in beefing a 10-bolt up. However, I am concerned about it having the stock 130k mile axles, diff., etc. Are they of much concern or is this thing gonna puke after a single 1.5 60' launch? I'd hate to give him money and get a single pass out of it, if I got a couple track days out of it then it would be worth it to me.

There's that very fine line that is so hard to answer. Being on a budget, why not go ahead and if nothing else have a spare. But, you would be better to just save your money because 10 bolts are no bueno.

You could always ask to borrow it for grins.....if you snap it, give it back and say....Oops, My Bad.... j/k

If it only cost around $100 and if you can install it yourself than i'd say try it out. Drive it until it breaks

I'd say if your already cutting 1.5 sec 60's, you should be plenty happy with what youve got, I dont see a high mileage 10 bolt doing any better, regaurdless of gears, but like already stated, would make a good spare.

If it's cheap I would say buy it and keep it as a spare, imho 1.5 60's on a 7.5 is or borrowed time anyway even in a auto car. There are alot of guy's building 8.8 on the cheap
