What LS6 heads to buy!?!?!
my friend is looking to make a bit more power wit his 04 gto. he's probably going to get a 228/232 .551 lift 112 lsa camshaft.
i have the same cam in my ls6 carburetor motor. i have a motor out of a 2003 Z06. he wants to get a set of ls6 heads (like whats on my car) if its going to make any difference. is it worth getting a ls6 head and i see on summit that there is like 10 different heads listed. he also plans to get comp cams R-Race lifters and double valve springs and eventually pushrods and rockers. he's lookin to make around 450-500 hp
so is the ls6 worth getting will it make that much of a performance difference?
Which head should he get?
and is there any difference between a 2003 corvette ls6 and a 2004 gto ls1?
Thanks
Anthony

he needs push rods, springs, and timing set at least but those race lifters are not needed. i would suggest a cam in at least the .580+ lift range. and at least 224+ duration. he should pick up a set of 243 heads, porting and such is up to his budget. is he looking for 450 rwhp? or bhp? my set up is making 396 rwhp. 224r, stock 799's(same as 243's minus the valves), ls6 intake, 85mm tb, 30 lb injectors + supporting mods through an m6. i would assume that should be plenty for a dd.
to answer your questions, get ls6 heads(porting is up to the owner), he already has an ls6 block. and the differences being the heads and cam. so no need to buy a whole new long block.

450 is doable with cam only or heads only. doing both you are looking at 465-470 bhp. which is about 395-400 rwhp. and trying to get that to hook in a gto isn't easy. i'de start worrying about suspension, rims, and tires after that.
