Default How did i fail PA inspection

I just put on longtube headers highflow cats and a borla exhaust. I just failed edmisions. If i get the car dyno tuned would that help me? Is it possible that my car is running to rich causing me to fail the test? Any thoughts would help.

I would assume tuning could probably straighten it out. Very well could be running rich

Move to Indiana! One of the reasons I moved from Montgomery County in 1996!!!

What failed - NOx, hydrocarbons or CO2? Did you put all plumbing back when installing cats?

Any codes?

Would be nice to know what type of car, year, miles, mods, blah, blah, blah....

Tell us more - what county - was it a tailpipe check, a dyno test or a OBDII test?

Like they said...need more info. Did you fail the sniffer or did they do the new OBDII test for codes? Did you fail the new visual inspection portion because you replaced the manifolds/cats? Also, with LTs, the position of the cats is changed, which is illegal.

Sniffer it was the hydrocarbons and NO2. the mods are longtubes random tech cats borla exhaust.... that's it. the car is a 2000 Camaro SS with 35,000 miles. the code i through on the dash was check and was a bad gasket on the intake. i had it replaced and everything was fine. The only other problem i had was a o2 sensor.

Also the position is not why i failed... he was fine with that. i do have an exhaust cut-out if i were to open it and put the snifer would it work?

no offense but you gotta be kinda stupid to have an sniffer test with your mods an no tune. you should always tune up your car to its best ability before going under the sniffer, if not your just asking to fail. get it on a dyno and see the a/f ratio and have it dyno tuned or tune it with a MAFT for the time being.

and also, the tech might of been fine with your cats being moved but the car wasnt, being moved they take a bit more to heat up then the stock locations, farther the cats are moved = more emissions.

If the cutout is AFTER the cats it's prob would be better - slighter warmer temps, but them old Smokey the Statey may hear and lighten your wallet!

"Sniffer and hydrocarbons and NO2. "

Sniffer is at idle, so ( which is as effective an emission check as tasting the exhaust!) it's got NOTHING to do with tuning. All maintenance complete? A dirty air filter can cause this. Rich mixture is a HC fail, and NOx can be bad EGR or overheating...

"the code i through on the dash was check and was a bad gasket on the intake. i had it replaced and everything was fine."
Huh? No codes currently? What code was it - if you had a vacuum leak you may have pulled in debris and scored cyl wall - THAT will cause a HC fail!

" The only other problem i had was a o2 sensor."
Is that corrected? now THAT should have also set a code or three!

Curious; let me know!
