Default Engine bay is done! A few issues with first startup...

I was able to finish up the engine bay this weekend and get ready to fire it up for the first time in nearly 10 months. The good thing is there were no major fuel, oil or coolant leaks anywhere. The bad (1) battery died from sitting so long (2) starter took a dump (3) won't idle on its own in open loop (4) #8 primary glowing because its hot has kinda got me worried.

Moe is going to try to meet me tomorrow or Thursday to see if we can get the tune ironed out. I'm going to do a little more research on why the primary is getting so hot. Any suggestions from you guys would be great. Here's a few pics of the finished product with the custom intake tube and upper radiator support.

i see you're still running a heater, but it looks like your lines are going into the bottom of the hvac space, what's going on there?

No heater or AC. Those are the wires for the starter and alternator. They go through bulkheads in the AC delete panel.

Looks great Kyle Can't wait to see what kind of #s that monster puts out!

Looks like that over-the-radiator intake set-up is getting pretty popular

as far as the glowing primary is concerned the only thing that i can think of off hand is injector related. LT1 pcms cannot tune individual cylinders so if it is only one primary on one bank than I would check injector pulse with a noid light and if that checked out than perhaps I would consider swapping that injector with another on the same bank and see if the problem follows the injector or stays with the cylinder. I wouldn't run the car very long until you get that panned out, if it is running that lean to get a glowing primary without any real load than you could potentially do some serious damage. Good luck

That is very sharp looking!!! Good Job!!!

I'm curious about that radiator support. What's going on under that panel? What kind of filter are you running? Is the intake pipe steel or aluminum?

Thanks

Wow, one letter out of 147 words and my spelling sucks. Damn, guess my 3.98 GPR in college wasn't enough for the interwebs.

Thanks man! I'm very anxious to see what she does. The intake setup is really cool. I got the idea from a few guys around here...

Yeah, this is very interesting. This same issue was happening before I did the H/C/I swap. We swapped injectors between #1 and #8 and #8 was still hot. We put my tune in another PCM and #8 was still hot. The only thing I haven't done is replaced the injector pigtail for #8. I have a noid light but I'll have to admit that I'm not experienced with using or reading them.

The car has not seen any load yet. Maybe only 5-10 total minutes of idle time in the garage over the last few days.

hawt.

Good luck on that #8 issue, have you pulled the plug to look at it?

What noid light do you have? They are pretty easy to use. It should have a pretty strong pulse at the light for a good signal. You can also get a multimeter on it.

Thanks! I'm using an LPE C6 filter and an LPE 100mm MAF. The pipe is aluminized steel that was powder coated in "High Gloss Chrome". It's a 1D 60 degree bend from Dr. Gas. The upper support was custom made by a friend with shop outside of Round Rock.
