Default Build 14.1 CR in LS1 for E85 daily drive?

Anyone has built 14.1 compression ratio on Ls1 Block?

I consider build 14.1 CR in Ls1 so I can use Ethanol E85 .. I would drive daily on my T/A

Appreciate for input.

14.1 is pretty high compression for a DD even if you are planning E85 diet for it.

pretty sure Katech was only 13:1, relatively small cam(torquer) so DCR was high...might could get away with 14:1, but it'd have to be a big cam to bleed off some of the cylinder pressure

Is there a particular reason you want to run that kind of compression?

compression is where the power is at...

I thought e85 was closer to a 13.5:1...but I guess a big cam could bleed some of that off...

it is not going to happen on a sbe unless you weld up the chambers...you can probably get to around 12.3-4 with stock flycut pistons...put that is pushing the flycut and ptvc...

I plan on doing this sometime in the future with a 347...

let us know how it turns out if you decide to tackle this beast

I read other forum- Related to Ethanol forum discuss about the LS1. Most of LS1 owners told, they wish switch to 14.1 instead of 11.1 CR. I think so I choose on 11.1 CR on my rebuild LS1 for DD/drag sometime.

I like cheap power. I have some 241's I "home" ported (290's at .600 with stock 2.0 valves, but I port LS heads regularly) and a big cam (23x/24x). Just over 12-1 (57 cc). Milling the heads further imo would have required deeper flycuts into the pistons, more than I was comfortable running. I already have .110 deep cuts into it, almost half the depth of the crown. I also went with a Typhoon intake which i went in and ported myself with a matching 85mm tb that I also ported myself. I don't want to hear about heat soak because it works both ways. How cold do composite intakes get with a couple bags of ice sitting on the intake for a half hour before a track run? The speed density / e85 tune local is only $350 and I have less than $1500 into the top end (H/C/I). This build needs injectors of course because the e85 a/f ratio is a lot richer. So putting just over 2k into an engine that should run right with and even faster than some top dollar combos is very rewarding to me.

very true, can't wait to see the setup rip it up...but remember with cost not all of us have your porting skillz...we gotta pay for your talent...

but my uncle owes a shop in Crete, il so I do get some free labor too, (milling, vsi discounts, etc)...

who is doing the tune (pm if necessary)

We've done 14:1 compression Desert Attack LS7 off road truck engines.

Leno's was 11:1.

We've done E85 engines at 13:1. You could probably get away with 14:1 but we usually stick on the conservative side. If you got some E70 in the fall, winter or spring it could be harmful. The cam in Leno's engine was even milder than the Torquer because we were attempting to get a CARB certification on it.

Do you need to change to a different Spark Plug and Max Time to get the most out of e85?
